Thank you for taking time to contact us in response to our recent
announcement in New Zealand regarding the removal of vegetable fat,
including palm oil, from Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate and our return to a
cocoa butter only recipe.

In answer to your question, we are pleased to confirm that Cadbury
Australia is also removing vegetable fat, including palm oil, and returning
to a cocoa butter only recipe for Cadbury’s entire moulded block chocolate
range, including our flagship Cadbury Dairy Milk brand and product lines
such as Old Gold and Dream.

Some of our other product lines where vegetable fat, including palm oil,
has been added to replace a small amount of cocoa are more complex and will
take longer to change. However it is our intention to progressively work
through them so that all of the cocoa within the chocolate we make in
Australia and New Zealand is palm oil free as soon as it can possibly can
be.

The decision to remove vegetable fat, including palm oil and return to a
cocoa butter only recipe was based on your feedback and that of hundreds of
other Australians and New Zealanders.

Once again thank you for your support. We hope the change back to a cocoa
butter only recipe will help restore your faith in Cadbury and our
products.

Kind regards
CADBURY PTY LTD

What I think spooked them was a number of people let them know that that had decided to sample "Whittakers" (available in Woolworths) made in NZ and their sales began to plummet whilst in the meantime Whittakers have seen a substantial market share increase in Oz - When I gave it a go I wasnt surprised, I think it actually tastes better than Cadbury which is no mean feat! ;)

The EU spent decades trying to stop them even calling it chocolate due to the very low levels of cocoa in it and the high amounts of vegetable fat and milk products. I think part of the compromise was that in Europe it has to be called Cadbury's Family Bar.

Must admit I side with the EU...once you try a good quality chocolate anything by Cadbury's just tastes of sugar. I'd recommend Lindt, Green and Blacks or anything from Hotel Chocolat...might be a bit more expensive but it's the real deal and you don't need anything like as much of it to get your choccie hit.

JAS
