giving up alcohol

Postby Strawb » Wed Sep 02, 2009 5:45 am

Well I decided to give up drinking alcohol. I dunno why i just feel I have had my fair share of it. I normally go off it for a few months here and there but of late I just feel like I don't want to drink anymore. SO i am giving it up i have kept a beer in the fridge to remind me that i don't need it.

Good luck Disco Strawb. I don't drink as much as I used to. When I was a teenager and early twenties it was here we go again next day. Then in my thirties I got One Day International hangovers. Now in my forties my hangovers are Test Matches and I can't see the point of paying two days of hangover for a one night bender. These days its a six pack and night night LOL.

regards,

I've actually just started another dry spell ... Trying to get a bit fitter and healthier and I reckon it's a state of mind.

The negatives to drinking far outweigh the positives, once you see things clearly ... Of course I haven't given up for good and if I were in my 20's again I'd argue that the positives outweigh the negatives lol.

Good luck with it Strawb

I haven't had a drink for 10 days. Spent last weekend with my daughter painting her room and it was great to spend a whole weekend with her, rather than going down the pub and drinking pints all day and punting. It was great not to wake up with a hangover on Sunday too. Amazing how good I have felt during the week. Got a mate coming up from town this weekend, so I can hear the pub calling me again for that pint session. Two weeks is still a good effort though (for me it is anyway).
So you've seen everything have you?
Yep
Have you ever seen a man eat his own head?
No
Well you haven't seen everything then have you.

Keeping a beer int eh fridge to remind you, you don't need it, is like keeping a condom in your wallet saying you wont have sex anymore. If it's there it'll get used.....ENjoy that beer when u drink it mate

At least you decide when to use the beer though. ;)

It's like getting the sh*ts with the missus and then trying to hold out on her ... and how long does that last?

You'd be surprised, I've been told the best time to quit smoking is while you have cigarettes, I know of a couple of mates who went cold turkey with half a packet left and have never touched them again.

My grandmother gave up smoking (By hypnotherapy) but always carried around with her for years and years 2 cigarettes and a lighter.
Pretty sure after 10 years they wouldn't have been worth smoking anyway :D

Better make sure that beer is a Fosters; that way you won't be tempted

In my ripe old age I find I drink as much as I ever did. Only these days I spread out over 7 days what I used to cram into 3 hours. Enjoy all good things in moderation. Including moderation. ;)
