I sort of admit.....I am into that stuff. I have Foxtel at home and watch the Crime Investigation channel pretty much every night. Serial killers and people who murder somehow weirdly fascinate me. I wonder what must go through their minds - mostly not much! The crimes they commit are 1. cos they're off their face. 2. they're not fit to walk the street. 3. fits of rage. Either way, stupid!

I couldn't hit, punch or harm anyone, so it's more a 'trying to understand what makes people tick' fascination for me.

I'm the same, i also have a fascination with serial killers etc. Jeffrey Dahmer is one of the worst but its interesting to see documentaries on people like him and Fred West to see how they click. Whether or not death is the best for psychopaths like them will be a perpetual debate in our society.

The latest crime reported in the last 2 days involving 6 bodies found in the home of a convicted rapist in America was particularly gruesome as well.

Must admit I love it to... I have a bit of a collection of true crime stuff.

Funny how blokes get life sentences for murdering servo attendants in Texas.

Here, you can kill a world renowned surgeon, get 15 years and then go home

That's probably a subject for another thread.

Summary of incident
Holberg robbed and murdered an 80 year old white male in his home. The victim was struck with a hammer and stabbed nearly 60 times. The weapons used were: a paring knife, a butcher knife, a grapefruit knife, and a fork. A lamp pole had been shoved more than 5 inches down the victim's throat

This would have to be the worst of the lot!

Whilst i do understand your point regarding the length of sentence for murder in the respective parts of the world i fail to see how the profession or profile of the victim is in any way significant.

As wacky as America is in a lot of ways, at least they do have scope in their legal system for the worst of the worst to be jailed indefinitely, even if it means they're sentenced to something ridiculous like 437 years jail. Here its the absolute exception. I'm not saying all murderers necessarily should automatically be sentenced to life in jail without any possibility of release, but it would be good if the option was there for judges when sentencing the very worst (technically it probably is eg. Martin Bryant, but it doesn't appear to happen as often as in the US).

FC was at my place on SANFL GF day and was heading towards similar charges...........

whilst I'm very into the True Crime genre, I have no interest in Serial Killers- my interests are more in the organised crime (Australian)

Don't forget that's just the list for one state...be interesting to see the figures for all of them.

Must admit I find the 'true crime' type documentaries interesting...more from the forensics side...I'm fascinated with the methods of detection...the real CSI type stuff.

George Cornish was my dad's godfather and great uncle...wish he'd lived long enough to have been able to talk to him about it...have a copy of his autobiography but it's not quite the same thing.

Some pretty violent shit went down with some of those dudes on there though...

Speaking of people who like cooking, what about the Snowtown murderers! I reckon there were over 200 suppression orders made in that case. Some very grotty stuff hidden behind them.
