We have lots of parents on here - be it 'new' parents or 'old' parents O:)

What's your opinion.

With a forecast tempreature of 39 degrees in Adelaide on Saturday
Should the Christmas Pageant go ahead or be postponed??

At this stage it appears full steam ahead - with advice like "The road might be hot so bring a cushion"

Where is the "don't care" option? Parents know what the weather will be like. They can choose not to attend or they can choose to take the necessary precautions to make sure their children are well hydrated and not in danger on the day. If a parent thinks threre is a danger to their child then they shouldn't attend or if on the day they suspect the heat is becoming a problem pack up and go home.

Being in the morning it won't be when the heat will be at it's worst.

Take the right precautions, especially for the younger kids and there will be no problems.

We'll be going ... just have to try to get a shady spot and all is sweet.

Cancel or make it earlier, otherwise the paramedics will be swamped

Surely postponing the event one week would not be that much of a logistical exercise?

And if it's 39 next Saturday too ? Could happen as it's going to be 36 again by next Wednesday.

Have it, as we're not going, but are having the Grandparents over to watch it on TV with the kids.....

It should be postponed until 6pm Saturday evening. By then the cool has started to set in, there is a bit more shade and the UV risk is lower.

I'd be stuffed if I'd like my wife, 6 y.o & 4 y.o on the train on a Saturday evening.

Ya reckon, I think it would be a logistical nightmare, storage of the floats, people who have booked the day off to participate and wont be allowed by their employees to change it, any interstate influences, volunteers that help organise the smaller local pageants.
The show must go on! As a kid I used to count the days for the pageant, whether we went or watched in on TV, it's the day Santa comes to town, you can't tell the kids Santa's not coming Saturday because it is too hot.

Even though I think they probably should postpone that's a very good point LM.

You probably can't tell the kids that Father Christmas isn't coming to town just because it's too hot.

I don't think there will be as big of crowd this year though due to the heat.

That's a great idea (SJABC) about getting grandparnets over to watch it,
you could have mini pageant parties !
I love it :D

Definately it must go ahead. imagine all the kids when they are told that it isnt happening this week? and making them all wait another week to put up the tree :( :(

Unfortunately not, the kids get just as big a thrill watching it on the tube, is it still televised?

It's right up there with our famous icons, number 3 I think, it bloody well should be televised.
1) Fritz
2) Johnny Haysman
3) Christmas Pageant

Yes it is on TV - C9 at about 10 am

I think that it should be on the Sunday when it is a little cooler.

The minimum for Sunday is higher than the minimum for Saturday.

Dedja is right, it's cooler in the morning and it will still only be around 35c come 11.30am when it finishes.

If any move needs to be made, they could just start it a little earlier..

The trains and buses going home after a big evening event (eg Skyshow) are usually OK, although a bit crowded with the rush after the event. For Skyshow shuttle buses are/were put on, similar to the Footy bus routes.
