EFM health clubs?

Postby Sploosh » Tue Jan 05, 2010 9:35 am

I got a 'junk mail' flyer, advertising EFM health clubs a few days ago. I'm trying to get a bit fitter and lost some weight. I've never heard of them before, but seeing as one club is only a few minutes away, I thought I might give them a go. They are advertising a "5 weeks for $25" introductory offer. Has anyone ever used EFM? Got any good experiences to share? Bad experiences? What are the facilities etc like?

I reckon provided there's no hidden strings attached to the offer, at $25 for 5 weeks just go for it mate ... It's not a huge loss if it turns out to be a dud and conversely its dirt cheap for use of gym facilities.

EFM tend to use the gym facilities at various schools around the place outside of school hours. Think the plan usually is that the equipment belongs to the school and then EFM organise how the gym operates. Only catch is that the gym belongs to the school so its opening hours for public use are not during school hours. For $25 it can't be to bad

That's a good point, CP; the 'string' seems to be that to take the offer, you have to sign up for a further month at "normal" price. I don't know what that normal price is yet. I'll probably go along and find out further details/see the facilities, I just thought if some people had 'horror stories' then I wouldn't waste my time...

Ah, maybe that's why they seem so cheap (at least initially, until the 'normal' price kicks in.

Yeah that changes things a bit if you have to commit to a less cheap option as part of the process ... Those sneaky marketing gurus!! [-X

That reminds me - I'm a member at the Aberfoyle Hub gym and they've sent me this voucher to give to someone, a month's free membership. No strings attached, although the staff will probably try and sell you a year-long membership. Anyway, if anyone's interested, pm me.

I went and had a look. The price I was quoted was $99 per month, cancel membership at anytime. Which would mean that the first 9 weeks work out to $124. Hmmm... seems reasonable for those 9 weeks, but $99 a month is fairly pricey.

If I lived closer to Ab. Park that would have been quite useful...

Sploosh, are you going to the gym in town? If so there are cheaper options around. If in the burbs, I'd have a look around cos I reckon you'd get cheaper than that.

In town, about 100 a month is commonplace. I got a gym for about 500 a year. Small gym obviously but good staff and small customer base.

Yikes, is $100 a month about the norm now? Things have gone up a lot since I used to go to a gym... well, obviously they would, I guess, it being about 10 years since I've gone to a gym.

This gym is south of the city.

Yes, good for the first 9 weeks. I was just thinking that after that, $99 is pretty expensive, but maybe that's what most gyms are these days?

Yep, I'd be looking for something un-franchised that's been around for a while. You should be able to pick something up for 5-700 per year.

EFM was originally started up by former Sturt and Essendon player Shane Radbone. He's out of that now and doing other things, but here's a brief synopsis of his career that began with EFM.

I was a member of the Parks a few years back, & was also a member of North Adelaide Fitness Centre (Sheldons).
I can recommend NAFC as being very good.
