$peed camera$ - only in accident hot$pot$

Good to $ee a camera at the bottom of the dip on Nelson Road Para Vista, between Montague & Milne roads parked in a bus stop. I have lived and travelled this area for nearly 20 years and NEVER known of, nor seen an accident anywhere near this section of the neighbourhood..
So much for targeting accident "hot$pot$". Just a p^$$ weak excu$e to rai$e revenue IMHO.
And no I didn't get pinged, how could I there were that many fla$hing headlight$ coming toward$ me it lit up the entire $treet. Bureaucracy gone $tupid!

IIRC i can remember a picture in the paper of a cop with a speed camera hiding behind one of the pilons at the festival theatre car park... there was a huge kick up about it then too... pure revenue raiser, the cops have targets too so they get aggressive, worse than call centres if you ask me. :D

Would you rather they raised taxes?

I have no problem with speed cameras being used as revenue raisers ... Remember you need to be approx 10% over the speed limit to be caught. If you can't stay under 67km/h in a 60 zone then you deserve to be caught, bottom of a hill or not.

So it's your choice whether you contribute to the state coffers or not.

i was of the understanding they dropped the 10% rule and lowered it to around 5%

Mate of mine recently got done and received a fine for 66 in a 60 zone, and no they rarely put the cameras or do laser in accident hotspots, all comes as to where money can be made or where there has been a few traffic complaints made by members of the public. It's like Galway avenue BROADVIEW, can't remember the last time i heard of or saw a road crash there but a speed camera is there quite often, same as Fuller St WALKERVILLE, really is a joke on occasions.

Me three. Same with parking fines, could never understand why people complain about getting them.

That's correct, you can contest though between 5 & 10 percent. Speedo's are not 100% accurate and that's why there is some leeway.

They wound it back from 10% leeway to 5% when the revenue started dropping

Got to disagree about Fuller St mate, wankers often go down there at night doing at least 80+. When the pub was open there was one **** who did a burnout down the street every week-night at 1 am. Agree about Galway in recent times, however when I lived there in the early 90s there were lots of accidents near the Collingrove ave intersection, blokes falling off motor bikes, cars hitting trees in the medium st (at least 3 occassionsin a year), a stolen car ending up on top of my neeighbour 3 doors down wall. As far as I am concerned if you speed you should pay the price. This revenue raising is totally at the discretion of the driver.

I saw a copper on Sunday night with a speed gun clocking people passing through the 25km adjusted zone along Dequettaville (sp) Tce. Blatant attempt at revenue raising.

Meanwhile, a friend's house was broken into for the 2nd time this year with approx $10k worth of good stolen, but that's not serious enough for police attendance. On top of that, if said friend had been home at the time and giving the theif a going over with a cricket bat, she'd have ended up in the clink, while the lowlife theif lives comfortably on benefits.

But, I digress...

I sat at the intersection of War Memorial Drive and KW Street on my way home only to watch 4 Tour Down Under support vehicles cruise through the 'safety' cameras there one after the other, each passing followed by a flash...... Boy that intersection must rack up the $$$. Looks like the Tour is going to cost someone an additional $1000....

Sometimes I wish I was a cop. It must be nice to be able to finance your own pay rise. ;)

SPEED DOES NOT KILL! Stupidity does. Speed can only make the damage worse.
When my kids are crossing the road, I don't give a stuff if someone is doing 10 or 15 kms
over the limit, just so long as they are driving safely according to the conditions, and have
their eyes where they should be - on the road, not the bloody speedo.

The outrageous fines from entrapment locations are scaring drivers into constantly looking at
their speedometers, instead of the road. Especially low income earners. I feel for them.
A simple mistake like not seeing a speed sign due to a truck or a bus beside them, then pow!
A fine that doesn't worry some of us, can mean painful poverty for a young family, or retired
pensioner. The punishment is horribly inequitable and modern society has enough pressures.

I wonder how many times a large traffic fine has been the final straw for someone highly
depressed, or in dire financial straights and 'close to the edge'. Could our excellent police force
be making extra work for themselves in the long run when dealing with resultant tragedies ?
:-?
Are speed camera policies costing lives and revenue, instead of saving them ?

I wrote a letter to the expiation department once to contest a speeding fine - they changed a 60 zone to 50 when I was overseas and I didn't realise. Unfortunately they did not consider it a good enough reason and charged me an additional $30. I thought it was a pretty s**t reason myself but I just like writing letters and I thought I'd try my luck. :)

I think it's crap having a radar at the bottom of the Expressway at least three times a week. Sure, every time I drive past they always seem to have caught someone, but it's not a particularly hazardous location. Same with the 60 zone on South Rd at Old Noarlunga, when only a few kilometres away you've got people getting killed on Victor Harbor Rd.

If a fixed speed camera was installed on the Dukes Highway, I might be convinced that they're actually intended primarily to save lives.

Jeez Sabre, a little melodramatic don't you think?

If someone can't afford a speeding fine then don't speed, simple.

Those that do are indeed stupid.

Agree with your sentiment mate, it's certainly within the control of each and every motorist as to whether they contribute to this form of revenue.

It would however, be nice, if the authorities stopped playing stupid and gave the public the real reason as to why they (camera's) are in place ... And as for taxes being raised, why can they not function on the abundance they receive already?? (separate issue I know)

Yep, I'd agree with that ... could be worse though, the Vic cops make nabbing those between 60 & 80K signs in country Victoria an art form.

Problem is Mic, speed cameras are down there during the day, they don t work after 10pm, I agree you speed you pay the price but the cops have no choice what they have to do. My stance of not issuing fines for minor speeds put so much pressure on I had to leave SAPOL, when you get told you have to issue so many fine infringement notices a day or suffer the consequences (as I ended up doing) course the cops will do you. I sat on Fuller Street today for an hour and had 4 vehicles travel down the street, one being the speed camera vehicle that was going to another location
