Thanks for the link mate, be interesting to see how it pans out. If history is anything to go by the website should be safe but the posters may not. If that changes then the way all online forums are moderated would definately have to be looked at, this website no exception.

Wedgie: Roughly speaking, how many posts would get pulled off this site?

I agree with Peter. The owners of that site would make millions from advertising and if they are going to allow blatant defamation I say take all their money. I have been bullied before, and when it kicked in there was nothing I could do. being in the football business helping with game plans, particularly North Melbournes, it is quite obvious that this is not a small issue.

Now we know why you do this Wedgie

Argh, good question. A very small amount in the context of overall posts, probably less than .3%.
We do have a "hidden" forum where we move all threads that are deleted and it is 11 pages long but a lot of those are duplicate posts, etc.
My memory is poor but Ive only ever had one threat of legal action. Usually if organizations treat me well and request something be removed I abide but if an organisation or person just outrigt threatens me Ill quite often leave stuff sitting there.
The amount of organizations or people that go about it he right way and therefore get my help far outweigh the number who don't. We've never had a major issue yet and most of the minor one has been in regard to the regional or country boards.
Most other websites Ive observed have had a lot more problems thanthis website, this one has been really good and I put that down to the people we get rid of and discourage, the great people who do post here and the high level of common sense shown by my team of moderators. :)

This lawsuit has to be successful first before anyone starts worrying. I dont think he'll win even if he pursues it.

The story mentions that this particulay lawyer has already had a successful on-line defamation case, so precedents exist although the case mentioned doesn't give any details..

What about when one poster makes false comments about another poster on a forum
For example
Flighty Tiger says "" Balloonman is rooting prostitutes that frequent at Hanson Road.""
Can Balloonman get a defamation action against Flighty Tiger ?
