I have a dinner party tomorrow night and have gone through the wine rack and picked out a few rippers to open tomorrow night. I have a 98 E & E Pepper Shiraz and a 1997 Rockford's Basket Press. That then got me to thinking, what the best tasting wine I have ever had. Personally, the Rockford's Basket Press Shiraz is my favourite. How about everyone else?

I'm a fan of Wynn's Cabernet Shiraz Merlot - first tried it at the German Arms in Hahndorf and it went down a treat!

Two excellent wines.

Henschke Hill of Grace (and it was free). Can't remember the year, perhaps 1998. Excellent but a bit of a one off.

Sounds like to balance your'e excellent reds, perhaps a 2009 Eden Valley/Clare riesling with some after din dins muscat.

Anything from Skillagillee, as long as it's red

A bit of D'arenberg is always good.... as long as it's red

Jamieson's Run

.....preferably cab sav blends.

Craggy Range Sav Blanc.

I've also got a Hill Of Grace - too scared to open it yet.

I have a bottle of St Halletts 1996 Old Block which I'll never drink because I don't drink red - it was given to me as a gift from the footy club. The only reason I've kept it is because I found out its now worth about $100.

So if anyone's interested....


My favourite wines though are Grant Burge Virtuoso, which Im not sure they even make anymore, Peter Lehmann Semmilon and Bethany Late Harvest Reisling

But if I hadn't I would have recommended Grenache. The only ones I have tasted thus far are from the Rhone valley. Great stuff, goes particularly well with pizza. I have only seen an Australian Grenache once in Japan, it was selling for about 2000 yen which puts it sort of high mid range price IMO. I think it was called "Old Boots" or something, but I didn't want to buy it at the time because I would have had to cart it around all day, and it was a long day. I'll grab it next time.
I love Chianti also, another great pizza wine.
Pinot Noir goes with everything. One of the almightys of the wine world IMO.
Carmenere, which is usually produced in Argentina or Chile is another beauty.

The first time I ever got pissed (early October 1985 ) me and my 14 year old mates were cowering behind the dumpster at Glenelg Primary School with a cask of that stuff.

Never, never, never again.....

I have half a dozen bottles of an Andrew Garrett Reserve Shiraz put away for special occasions. For everyday quaffing, can't go past the tried-and-true Wirra Wirra Church Block.

At the moment however anything would go down nicely... I have been on the wagon for the last 2 months

its not often I have to stoop so low but Ill keep it in mind for if I have to

Nothing wrong with a bag of goon and fanta on a warm sunny day. Very refreshing and it gets you smashed.

My favourite whine is the St Kilda fan on BigFooty who reckons St Nick will kick Taylor's ar5e once the weather improves.

I am a Huge fan of that too

Wynn's Michael Shiraz (1994).

Received a bottle for my 21st back in 1999. Drank it on my wedding anniversary in 2006. Best wine I've tasted...

If we're talking best realistic/regular bottle of wine, I quite enjoy D'Arenberg's Footbolt Shiraz.

Have also started drinking Sangiovese lately. Coriole do a nice one. Great with meat based pasta or an antipasto plate...

I love Sangiovese. I only discovered it once I got overseas though. I never knew that they grew it in Australia.
