I read in the paper over the weekend, that the "swine flu" this year will quite likely be more virulent than last year's version.

The article also said that it can particularly affect those in the 21 - 40 age group, and that its strongly recommended that those in this age group consider a vaccination.

My work is offering a free vaccination, so i'm considering it.

Did anyone have one of these vaccinations last year, and if so did you receive any side effects from it? I've known of a few people over 60 years old over the last few years, who have suffered some unpleasant symptoms after a vaccination. I'm wondering if those in their 20's and 30's who have a vaccination are likely to experience something similar.

I had a free vaccination at work last year against swine flu, no side effects. Our work always offers free flu vaccinations each year, I've never had a problem with regard to side effects. Flu can have serious sometimes fatal consequences so I think it is a no - brainer regarding vaccination. By the way I'm 54.

I never get them and never get the flu, everyone at work that gets them is usually sick with the flu for a week. Get out of that what you will.

Yeah, i had no intention of getting one until i read in the paper yesterday that the new strain of Swine Flu is meant to be most severe for 18 - 40 year olds.

i work away from people yet have kids so i will be getting one to play it safe knowing my luck I will get the flu.

Yeh winters just reaching it's end in Europe and it killed everyone here.

Sorry GWW but imho it's a case of the papers would say that wouldn't they...if they can't terrify people with terrorists or immigrants then they'll try with food or health scares. I can't remember seeing/hearing anything about it in our media since sometime last year...they seemed to totally lose interest when it went off like a damp squib and they realised that normal seasonal flu would kill far more people in an average year. In fact I'm certain the last story I remember was that most Europeans Governments are desperately trying to sell off their unused stockpiles of vaccine. So you might want to check the 'use by' date.

If you are even contemplating having a flu vaccine why not get it at CMAX in the Royal Adelaide Hospital and get paid a few hundred dollars for it?

Same here, will get the flu shot next week that has the swine flu vac as part of it, no problems, not even something that needs consideration before doing it, I think.

Ah ok, yeah i guess i was just a bit cautious about it as i'd heard of people in the older age bracket who had some flu like symptoms are having the vaccination, so was just curious if anyone in their 20's or 30's had experienced anything similar.

Had it last year and had no problems at all.

Immunisation is a neccessity.

Does the swine flu vac give you permanent immunisation or is it like the common flu vac which is necessary to get every season ?

I'm like Wedgie, I never get vaccinated and never get sick, yet hear of others who get the needle and get sick almost immediately.
I'm only considering it for the 1st time cause it would be silly to die from a virus which you can be immune against for free.

don't they give you a mild dose of the flu so your immune system can overcome it and build up stocks so it can't get you again...?

that'd be the reason they get sick immediately...

I think there is but it is a dead strain as such???

I hear quite often that people who get vaccinated get sick afterwards. Anyone know why? I know of quite a few pwoplw each year this happens to.

Think it depends on the individual. I've had it for years and never had a problem. The one year I didn't get the jab I was sick all the time so now I never miss out on the opportunity to get it.
