Eagle Rock Tradition (Pants Down)

Many readers of this site will be aware of the Eagle Rock Tradition.
For those who are not, when the song Eagle Rock, by Daddy Cool, is played in various pubs and clubs are the county, patrons are known to drop their strides and dance around with their pants around their ankles.
For years, I battled with the reasoning behind it. Why? What is the origin of this idiotic yet fun-looking behaviour.
Wikipedia offers an explanation - AT LAST!!!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eagle_Rock_(song)

"Since the mid 1980's, whenever the song is played is played in a public bar or club, it has been common practice for Australian university students (largely male) to unstrap their belts and hobble around with their pants around their ankles for its duration.
Members of Daddy Cool have admitted to being perplexed over the origin of this practice.
It is often attributed to a group of mining engineering students, who at the time were residents of St Johns College, a residential college within the University of Queensland campus.
St John's, which claims the title of Queensland's oldest college (a title shared with another University of Queensland college, Emmanuel), has had the eagle as its mascot since its founding, and as such argues that they began the practice.
In "St Leo's, the memory" (1992) by Micheal A. Head, the author comments on the heated confrontations that occurred during his time at St Leos college, between the residents of both colleges relating to this issue.[17]
The Clubs and Societies manual for the University of Queensland, has "Founders of the Eagle Rock Tradition" noted with the information for the UQ Mining and Metallurgy Association.
Whilst it is a somewhat controversial claim, it is a reasonable suggestion with a number of St Johns residents specialising in the Mining field during the 1970s.
Furthermore, the management policy of the University of Queensland's Student Union states no individual can be removed from the University pub, the Red Room, for dropping their pants whilst Eagle Rock is being played."

So there you have it folks. It's just copy-cat behaviour of a bunch of banana-bending Uni students.
With this in mind, do you partake in the Eagle Rock Tradition?

The boys at our footy club always participate. We have been kicked out of many pubs and clubs for doing it. The dance floor in the club rooms could be empty, but if the Eagle Rock comes on boys come from everywhere with their pants down. It is quite amusing for others looking on.

We do it at our footy club too, was on two weekends ago and like BB08 said, people just rush to the dance floor without their pants and go nuts. I've never known where it's come from either, but it does have cult following.

I'd never heard of this strange custom before this thread, but then I'd never heard of Eagle Rock either...
[No, I'm not big into pop - though I did have a few recordings by bands like Black Sabbath, Jethro Tull, and the obscure Paladin in my youth.]

This is a great practice.

When I first took part, I walked into the bar, with Eagle Rock blaring, and my mates were not dancing, but just chatting as normal, doing everything they would normally do, bar the fact that their pants were around their ankles.

Very funny to watch!

Second time was on a footy trip, and I was again out of the room, with a fella who didn't know about the practice. I bet him $50 that most of the room would have their pants down when we walked back in.

Sure enough, everyones eating lunch, having a couple of brews, and pants are around the ankles. Funniest thing ever.

I was at my Daughters wedding in WA two weeks ago and they're all bloody West Coast Fans over there. Anyway, Eagle Rock came on, my Brother-In-Law, My Nephew and myself all dropped the strides and started shuffling on the dance floor. Nobody over there had ever heard or seen of this before.

Got plenty of laughs, a stare from my wife and just a "shake of the head and walk away" from my Daughter.
