Named after Osmond Gilles (of Gilles Street fame). He was the treasurer for colony of South Australia from 1836 to 1839.

Garbage.
It's short for Orange Guice Rd, as they used to have grape vines growing roadside. They shortened them name to "OG", to commemorate Orenthal J Simpsons acquittal of murdering his wife.

I believe they tried to call it HJ Rd, but that was knocked back for some reason...

I was always of the opinion it was an abreviation for Old Government Rd.

"Osmond Gilles' name is also remembered in many other locations around Adelaide such as Glen Osmond Road, Mount Osmond, Gilles Street (in the city), Gilles Plains and OG Road."
