Moving (house) company

Hi all. My wife and I are going to be moving from our house to a new one in a couple of months - it's just a 5 minute drive away, Marion area. I'm wondering:-
1) if anyone has a suggestion about a good (professional/look after things carefully/reasonable price) moving company they've used/know about, and
2) roughly how much it might cost - a 2 bedroom unit with furniture/whitegoods, household gear etc - the lot. I don't know whether it is one "truck load" or two - perhaps just one big truckload?
Thanks in advance.

For that load I would suggest hiring a truck yourself and getting some mates to help. Will save you a fortune and you'll do it in one day.

Agree with that, we moved a 4 bedroom home about 20km in less than a day with one small moving truck (cut price are the best value).
If you really can't be bothered (and I get that, great if you can afford to pay someone else to do it) then anyone but Rocky's removals would be the go!

I have used Belair Furniture Removals in the past and they have been very good and reasonably priced. Also a lot better than trying to do it yourself.
You do need to book in advance and they will help with size truck and estimate in cost.
I have found moving to be one of the most stress full days in your life and good help well worthwhile. Although if you go to any of the big mobs the dollars are huge.

I agree that you should do things yourself. You are usually carefull with stuff like plates and glasses and thinks and you answer to you and family. If it's a company, if they break something, they should pay for the damage and answer to the family.

No one will look after your possessions like yourself.
Do it yourself.
Doesn't matter, you will probably replace everything you own every 8 years...?

Thanks for the suggestions so far. Doing it ourselves is not really an option, so any more tips on local, reasonable companies would be great.

My experience, having moved 8 times in 14 years is that they are all much the same, and the quality of a given company varies with time.
Biggs and Appleton used to be great about 20 years ago, but they had gone off when we used them last in 1999, after the original founder had died.
Part of the problem is the casualisation of the industry, so that the staff not longer care about the company as they don't see themselves as part of it in the long term.
They tend to start out OK but get hurried, and rough with your stuff, as "beer o'clock" approaches.
Check with acquaintances who have moved recently for companies in a good phase, then insure, insure, insure.
So, far I've racked up a claim for about $4000 on my most recent move.
Forget "professional packing" that starts well and deteriorates as the day progresses too.
