As from September, anyone who gets their license after September 4th and is 25 or under are banned from driving the cars listed below;

BMW M and M3
Honda NSX
Nissan 350Z and 370Z
All post-1994 Porsches
Mercedes-Benz SLK350

By definition, others would include:

V8 Holden Commodore, Statesman, Caprice & Utes
Holden Commodore & Statesman V6-supercharged
V8 Falcon, Fairlane, LTD and utes
Subaru Impreza WRX, Liberty B4 & Liberty GT
Mitsubishi Lancer Evo and Ralliart
Mazda3 MPS
Holden Astra SRi Turbo
Ford Focus XR5
Ford Mondeo XR5
Ford G6E Turbo
FPV all models (which are V8 or turbocharged)
HSV (which are V8 or turbocharged)
Volvo S40 and V40 Turbo (although other turbo Volvos are exempted)
Volkswagen Golf GTI & Jetta 2.0 T
Skoda Octavia RS TSI
BMW 335i, 535i, 550i, 650i, 740i, 750i, 760i, 135i, M5, M6, Z4 35i.
Bentley Continental
Toyota TRD Aurion
Nissan 200SX
Nissan GT-R
MINI Cooper S
V8 and V12 Mercedes-Benz
Lexus IS F, LS460, LS600h, SC430
V8 Jaguars
Supercharged, some turbocharged petrol engine and all V8 and V10 Audis
V8 and V12 Aston Martins

Given where I work it's obviously been a topic of concern.

Mainly because of our H2P offspring company - which specialises in insuring U25's with highly modified/V8/Turbo vehicles may end up without any business.

Just FYI that is not a complete list.

No vehicles with 8 or more cylinders can be driven
No vehicles with a turbo or supercharger can be driven (there is a list of exemptions such as diesel vehicles and the smart car)
No modified vehicles
Nominated 6 cylinder vehicles (such as the porsches)

and it is only for p platers issued with their licence on or after 4 sept this year, and only until they are 25 or get their full licence, whichever comes first

And fc they can still own and insure that type of car, just not drive it on a road or road related area unless they are granted an exemption. it might not completely kill off business!

I managed to get into an old Dino Ferrari OK a few years ago, but getting out again was a bugger!
I had to sort of roll out - they were made for flexible midgets.

I got my Ls on my 16th bday.
Had my Ps on 16yrs 6 months.
I drove a 4cyclinder Mitsi Colt hatchback 1985 piece of rust.

I lost my license 3 times in this thing and used to absolutely burn around the hood.

(NOTE: i no longer drive like this at any level, i have learnt my lessons the hard way)

It is not the car but the driver.

I got my licence at 17, in 1960, by just passing a written test - no practical driving test required in those days.
Then I had 5 double lessons in a dual control car, paid for by my older sister. After that I shared the driving on a two week trip along the Ocean Road with her, and, having passed that test, I got to use her old FJ - the only car in the family - occasionally, on the understanding that I paid for any damage I did.

I had one minor scrape which cost me $40 - more like $400 in today's terms. Later I bought the FJ from her and kept it until 1967.
I lost my licence for 12 weeks once - in 1996 - 3 minor speedings and an illegal U-ie.
I didn't need any restrictions in my early career, but some may have argued they should have been imposed later when I could afford more powerful cars.

[I bought a Bathurst model HK Monaro 327 in 1969, but didn't lose my licence in that either.]

I needed my car to work to earn a living to LIVE at 17 and without it could have ended up on the street.
The majority of drivers at 16 are fine.

It's the older drivers who drive slow and are too hesitant.

It's much better than the RAA one, as it is visually the same as the real one, and questions from the real tests. Plus it says an online practice version of the P2 test (hazard perception test) will be available soon.

There is an easy way to beat the system, dont get your license until you turn 25, then you can drive anything you want (except trucks and buses etc), you dont need experience then you only need to be old enough and it wont affect you being a younger driver, 'cos when you turn 25 you can afford to have full comprehensive ins as well.

After stopping for fuel on my way to the footy one saturday morning.I watched this hoon drive backwards around the corner at the service station .He seemed to be doing close to 100.
Then come back around the same corner. Then continue up Victoria round seemed like doing 100 power sliding all the way.All the way sitting on the white line in a straight line .How the hell he didn't lose it and hit a pine tree or power poll I have no idea.

Yep bring on the restrictions .If it saves 1 innocent life of another driver or pedestrian so be it.Who cares if the hoon drivers or their parents complain.Its the law don't like the law change the government

Why complain they can still drive smaller cars.Which means they can still drive to work etc.

You can't say that about me - I'm already 5 points down since January 2008 for not doing that - two speedings and one not hesitating for a light as it turned red...

[The latter wasn't intentional - the light changed as I was recovering from avoiding the kid who changed lane in front of me without indicating.]
