Very intriguing JTC, I'm bloody glad I asked, you tell it as though I am there and visualising it all.

Great that the families are still present in the region.

There’s heaps of stuff about them.
In 2012 we had a big party in the village to celebrate the 400th anniversary. Mrs Claret and others dressed up as witches for charity. She was very convincing now I come to think of it. It’s about time she took off the hat though

Absolutely.

We had some weird happenings in our house when growing up.

If the oldies went away for a weekend (which was most weekends when I was between 14 and 16) or were staying out the night I'd sleep in their bed as there was a phone in their room, every time I did the touch lamp would come on at 11:11.

On another occasion when my brother slept in there he went to get out of bed for a wee but couldn't as it felt like an adult was sitting on him but no one was there.

Above someone else has carved some initials and 1716. The 1616 carving is very neat, almost like it’s been done by a stone carver. When we were having the lounge renovated we decided to get rid of the old wood burner. We got the builders to take off the dry lining on the wall and dig out the filled in fire place. When they’d finish they’d got back to the original fire place complete with ash stained stone. We’ve had an open fire built in there and have to say it looks terrific.

Fantastic.

We ripped our bathroom out around 3 years ago. Under the tiled floor was screed, under that screed was another layer of tiles and another screed. Under that level was two large pieces of blue slate, mintaro probably.

The slate is about 1800mm long, 400mm wide, around 40mm thick. It's scalloped out in the middle suggesting it was probably the original step down into / up out of the old semi-detatched bathroom.

Years ago my sister bought a house in Willunga built in the 1870’s made of slate. Obviously from the quarry up the road the walls were slate laid horizontally and about 2 feet thick it had slate floors often very big pieces and a slate cellar. What they did find that concerned them was the ceiling in their bedroom was also three pieces of slate as you said Booney about 40 mm thick. As this was above them as they slept and was obviously very heavy, they were concerned by what was holding it up so they had that removed. There was evidence that the other ceilings had been slate as well. All the paths around the property were slate as well.
