Back when Australia Day was just a public holiday and not a political play thing.

The smell of smoke in our house reminded me of Mum and Dad's cards night's they used to have when I was a kid and smoking inside wasn't seen as it is now.

Was usually Saturday night at our place.

My footy in the morning, home and get into my lace up guernsey and off to watch Port beat someone, home for Mum's homemade pasties or bacon bone soup, into the jammies in time to get out of the lounge for the cards night to kick off.

Didn't you try and race home to see if you could spot yourself in the crowd when the match of the day replay came on?

It was easy for me, I was the kid getting beaten up because mum would dress me in a bright pink jumper for the above purpose.

Yeah, the whole family was excellent at hide and seek too, I'd be looking from Saturday morning until Sunday afternoon and could never find them.
