City to Bay

Anyone else doing it?

I only started training this week due to having a shoulder recon 7 weeks back.

I'm struggling to walk, despite only running 4km on Mon and 3km in 150m intervals yesterday.

There's a pretty good program to follow on the city to bay website.

I'm aiming to run it inside 50 mins. Anyone else?

Yep I aim to do it again as part of Autism SA's group so if anyone wants to sponsor me and donate to a good cause feel free to pm me ;)

Will be doing it very slowly and painfully if my calves don't get better !!

Considering it. If we win the premiership this year (gotta believe!) my preparation could get shot to pieces.

I started training 4 weeks ago but the last two weeks the 'it's cold and rainy' disease set in hard.

Under 50 will be a big ask.

I ran it in 49.58 in 2008 and that was flat chat.

If you do intend to get to that time you'd want to get there early or you will be fighting your way through slow people the whole way.
People in the running group were walking before Victoria Square last year

For sub 50 you'd want to be running 5 times a week, slowly building up to peak with a week to go.
Then last week drop all traing back at least 50% so your fresh.

49.58 is a good time mate.

Before my shoulder op, I was comfortably running 11mks in 42-43 mins 3 times per week, plus a couple of sprint sessions.

I'm hoping to get back to that level within the 7 weeks, but injuries are a threat.

I've heard that the way people line up is ridiculous. Is it a good idea to even hang right back and start 30 mins after the official start?

Quickest you have ever run was at the Miss 'Burra quest as you ran to avoid darts that were being thrown at your bare ass !!

Sounds like you will cruise it in under 50.
Once it's race day you tend to push yourself hard.
"It's a race, it's a race!"
Personally, starting at the back is a nightmare, once you hit anzacs people run about 10 abreast and if you are going full tilt you literally bump people out the way.
Definately worth getting as near the front as possible if you are serious.

I ran it a couple of years back in just over an hour, did a bit of training before hand but i definately under-estimated the whole thing. I was pretty confident i could do mid-50s but i just didnt get enough mileage into the legs in the weeks leading up. I was only running twice a week, sometimes 3 tops.

Still keen to have another crack at it one day, if my legs allow me to do the required training - ankles and knees dont take kindly to running these days, they much prefer bike-work.

19th of Sept mate. Which is generally the morning after most suburban football GF's.

Fair enough. Good tip.

Well we won't be playing in the finals so I guess I can run it then!

I ran it when i was 11- I aimed to break the 1hour mark, & I did it in 62 minutes from memory.
Have considered running it again, but wonder how long I would take.... I have endurance on my side.

I ran it two years ago for the first time and swore I would stick to the sa road runner races. There are just so many people who only run once a year sprint out at the start 50m up the road stop in front of you gasping for air. Very hard to find any sort of rhythm to get your stride. Thinking about it this year again tho. Ran 54mins off zero training coming back from injury so would love an under 50m time.

Sheesh, that's pretty good. 54 mins without training!!

I currently have 2 huge blisters - 1 on each foot from resuming training following my 7 week layoff. They won't stop me though!

I was planning on doing it this year but does anyone else over 30 find it difficult to play footy and train for something like this? I am still sore from the game three days after! I try and go for a run the day after but I dont feel as though i get anything out of it because my body is so sore! I swear footy gets in the way of getting fit!

Yeah, I couldn't have done it while I was playing footy - I was always boozed after winning a GF

You're right - footy takes too much out of your body to train properly for CTB.
