The funny thing is one of our execs at work is a Yank and a while back he asked if the Nutbush was an Aussie thing as hardly anyone knows it in the US. He lived there most of his life and only knows a handful of people that know it yet over here it’s played at every wedding and everyone seems to know how to do it

It's definitely an Aussie thing and the dance was always called the madison when I was growing up..

Edit: Just googled and found this:

It came from a NSW Department of Education initiative to blend physical education and creative arts and was born from a line dance called The Madison.

It must have taken off pretty quickly around Australia as it was a huge part of my life as a little tacker in the mid 70s and the song only came out in 1973.
