I find traffic in Melbourne quite good in peak hour compared to here.

Traffic in Melbourne...variable. Last week I had a call in at South Yarra, the shit fight to get out of there at 5.30pm was awful.

If you are going from say the CBD to the airport on the Tulla, not too bad.

I travel (most work days) from Bundoora in the North East to Dandenong in the South East. Once you are on the Eastlink, no problem. The trick is getting on the bloody Eastlink. There is a tunnel currently under construction to Link the Ring Road (near my place) to the Eastlink. Still 5 years away (I think) and I hope to be retired by then. But once it's in it will take 15-20 minutes off my commute.

I try to not go down to Dandenong every day, so once a week, work from home, and/or call on customers on my side of town

Casino that ate Melbourne - I've never seen a city life so controlled by a casino. Even Monte Carlonese have a life outside the cassas

Sydney is great if you live the lifestyle
I lived in Manly
Warm most of the year / beach life / ferry to work
Trains go to most places
Didn't need a car unless I wanted to go up the Northern beaches

And Melbourne has Dan and the Victorian Police

Helps when you don’t have any opposition. The SA Libs are absolute rocket scientists compared to the VIC Libs :)
Vics are so far in debt it’s going to be interesting in the coming years to see how it pans out

Yeah, but Dan's a God to some people so who gives a f*** about the debt and damage he did
Throw in the underlying power problems and there are going to be somemore real social issues over there.
I have plenty of professional clients over there who are very concerned at where its heading.
It wont be such a liveable place soon.

Some of these politicians dont give a FF about the people & long term. Its all about them keeping their jobs and looking after their themselves/mates.

Several things.
Firstly, why aren't solar panels compulsory when building a new house?
Secondly, why do we put baths in houses these days?
They waste sooooo much water.

Furthermore, in relation to traffic congestion, I see thousands of people driving to work every morning, only for most of them to park their car in a carpark all day (which must cost a fortune), then they reverse the process in the evening!
We must get smarter than this!
We should be strongly encouraged to leave the car at home & take public transport!

They're building a shitload more houses in Aldinga & they're extending the train line, that's positive!
We just need to persuade people to take public transport.

There's part of the problem, people's opinion of public transport.

True, if you make it convenient and reliable more people will use it.

I take the bus when going into the city as I hate paying for parking but its not every 15 minutes like they claim in Go Zones.
I will be back on September 27

My wife works in the City and pays for parking. She used to catch the train but got sick of the constant delays and cancellations as well as being shunted on to buses and getting home 2hrs later. And that’s before the lack of security on the trains

Obviously the public transport system sucks, I NEVER experienced delays etc etc when I used to catch the train from Salisbury to Adelaide back in the 80's, back when Grant Coffee was the conductor!
If you build it they will come maybe?

Contrary to this....

I lived in West Melbourne and Fitzroy and travelled everywhere by foot/tram/train. Not an issue at all. I'm a sport-ing person, so being able to travel to the rugby, races, footy, cricket, work and nightlife was important to me. At one time, I needed to drive to Box Hill from the inner city and realised it was easier to use public transport.

Also, I lived in West Ryde. I drove/trained everywhere and it took forever. I tried to travel from West Ryde to Manly one day and gave up and returned home.

So, my summation - it depends on where you live and what you want to do. Don't judge a place solely by your experience.
