After discovering I'm not in a contract with Origin, I'm on the lookout for a new electricity supplier (well, biller).
At the moment, I'm tossing up between Tru Energy, Simply Energy and Red Energy. Not considering AGL.
Anyone got any recommendations or should I just decide supplier via Chook Lotto...

Visit the escosa website ...
http://www.escosa.sa.gov.au and run your details through the energy price comparison.
They're called retailers by the way.
I use PowerDirect, saved $1000 off the standing AGL contract last year.

My advice DON't go near Simply Energy!
I deal with electrical retailers with work all the time and Simply Energy are by far the worst

For what it's worth.
Stay with origin.

I am with Tru on what was an agreed contract and they happily raised the price in the middle of it claiming that they had too, not sure that contracts with these firms are worth the paper that they are printed on!

Contract break fees for electricity appear to be pretty minimal - dearest I've seen is $90.
Used the ESCOSA calculator dedja pointed out and the 2 cheapest ones appear to be Lumo Energy and Simply Energy. However, that comparison guide doesn't include Tru Energy, but a quote on their website appears to have comparable rates to Simply Energy. A few other people have also recommended Tru Energy so they appear to be winning me over so far.

After they thought my off peak meter had done a lap and attempted to charge me about $1000 for their mistake (my hot water is gas), I don't think so
