Hello friends, I'm looking to get a hold of some old haggard couches/recliners that I can use for a temporary building that our church has a lease in. I don't care how dirty they are because i can clean them up and/or use coverings...

Mate, ring a few councils and find out when their area is having a hard rubbish collection, then drive the streets and have a look.

they had a gem of a couch about 2 months ago for $40

i was tempted myself to pick it up

Depending how long 'temporary' is and if it's for some church charitable works you could even try asking a local furniture store to see if they would donate some in exchange for some good publicity.

One of those recliner shops give trade ins - but I don't know what they do with the old ones.

Working in a nursing home I have to throw away a few at times....

A couple of years ago I had a 3 year old couch (fold out bed) that I didn't need. I accidentally put a 5 cm tear in the back of it as I was moving it outside for the Salvo's to collect. Apart from that it was good as gold. We had it sitting in our sun room and never used it.

They didn't take it because of the tear, and told us that "the people who may need it wouldn't like torn furniture".....

I have 1 you can have, a large 2 seater, in pretty good nick too. you can't sell them these days, so you can have it.

I inquired about one for you mate but apparently the owners disposed of it just yesterday.

Saw one tonight on the footpath in Royal Park, and if you did a few laps of the blocks you could probably take your pick lol.

Mate I've got two big arm chairs that are the comfiest seats ever, just too big for our house. They're a bit dirty from having them outside for a month or so now (but would clean up OK) and we tried the footpath with no luck, so I'd love someone to take them before they go to hard rubbish.

We had two older 2-seater lounges in reasonable condition which they didn't want and I also took about 6 boxes of clothes which they declined (said they would throw in the bin as they had so many clothes). Ended up taking them across the road to another charity who gladly took them. Also have had a perfectly good condition baby change table which they wouldn't take.

Am confident that St. Vinnies will take most things that are usable. The only problem we have is when people dump items that are definitely no longer usable - they use the collection bins as 'rubish' bins.

That's what I couldn't work out.

My next door neighbour saw me with them, and then grabbed it for his daughter as she moved out of home, and they use it as their everyday couch. She even sewed up the tear
