London Riots

Huge news in the UK with the London riots ripping apart areas such as Tottenham, Croydon, Birmingham etc. The initial cause was the shooting of a drug dealer & gangster (however a good family man) Mark Duggan.

JAS wrote:Saddest footage was a huge furniture store turned into an inferno. 140 year old business covering 5 generations of the same family. The building is one of the oldest in Croyden and even the junction it's on is named after it...completely destroyed. Bound to be footage on Youtube...try Reeves Croyden.

But you get to the place
Where the real slavedrivers live
It's walled off by the riot squad
Aiming guns right at your head
So you turn right around
And play right into their hands
And set your own neighbourhood
Burning to the ground instead

Riot - the unbeatable high
Riot - shoots your nerves to the sky
Riot - playing into their hands
Tomorrow you're homeless
Tonight it's a blast

Pirate stations in the harbour
Sending a message to the wireless
A warning to all tonight
There'll be no remorse tonight
The flag is burning as we speak

So when the lights go out
You'll hear them scream and shout

Riot on Broadway
Lights out on the town
Riot on Broadway
Anger burns the city to the ground

Secrets told and fears revealed
Peace is cheap and a smile's a steal
So the world lost it's beat
The world lost it's feet
Passed by while everyone was sleeping

So when the lights go out
You'll hear them scream and shout

Well we won't run anymore, won't run
We won't run anymore
But we'll scream and shout

Riot! Riot!

I heard this morning one of the looters, when asked, "Why are you doing this?" say -"Getting our taxes back!!"

Police Minister Boon has implemented a 9pm curfew. All persons in public areas past 9pm tonight will be peppered with rubber bullets, water canons and Susan Boyle tracks.

I'll be onto the UN about that one. Contravenes the Human Rights Convention for sure.

One ABC journo on the ground described many of the mob as 'recreational rioters', presumably those that see an opportunity to loot and pillage and go for it. Almost like going for a kick of the footy in the park.

The Smiths?

Panic on the streets of London
Panic on the streets of Birmingham
I wonder to myself
Could life ever be sane again ?
The Leeds side-streets that you slip down
I wonder to myself
Hopes may rise on the Grasmere
But Honey Pie, you're not safe here
So you run down
To the safety of the town
But there's Panic on the streets of Carlisle
Dublin, Dundee, Humberside
I wonder to myself

Burn down the disco
Hang the blessed DJ
Because the music that they constantly play
IT SAYS NOTHING TO ME ABOUT MY LIFE
Hang the blessed DJ
Because the music they constantly play

On the Leeds side-streets that you slip down
Provincial towns you jog 'round
Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ
Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ
HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ
HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ
HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ
Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ
HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ
HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ
Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ
HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ
HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ
Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ
HANG THE DJ

I saw a man get the beat down
Took his money and his wallet, left him dead on the ground
I saw them gather, celebrate the crime
Teaching us the laughter, another lesson of mankind
I raised my hand, I got another question
If I start to riot, will I get protection
'Cause I'm a kid who's got a lot of problems
If i throw a brick maybe the brick will go and solve them

Oh, yeah, I wanna riot
Oh, yeah, I wanna riot

I'm boiling up, the city's on heat
Red alert tention, you know it's on the street
Code blue, the city of the dead
Sirens in the night with the lights bloody red
See how we do this, see how we ride
Throw a brick, light the fuse, dodge a bullet, duck inside
A statistic hammered on my brain
Branded with another nother pawn in the game

Oh, yeah I wanna riot
Oh, yeah I wanna riot

In front of me, perpetuated
Crying in line, I got a burning to be
My face is burning, burning so quick
Burning like a candle at the end of its wick
Well, I turn the dial, I turn the channel
I turn it to a monster fighting the eternal battle
I need some help man, there is no doubt
If I'm gonna go down I'm gonna take somebody out

Oh, yeah, I wanna riot
Oh, yeah, I wanna riot

Riot
Riot
Riot
Riot
Riot

Yep that's exactly what they are. It's nothing to do with the shooting of Duggan. These are mostly kids that jumped on the chance to kick off and litterally run riot and with the help of twitter etc it's easily escalated...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-14450248

Because they're mostly young kids ie teenagers and some a lot younger clearly shown on screen (unless London's midget community have gone bad) there's not much the police can do. If they go in heavy handed against kids it'd be bound to get far worse. Trouble kicked off in other cities last night...Birmingham, Liverpool, Nottingham and Bristol. There was also a report on Al Jazeera's coverage (was actually more uptodate than BBC and Sky for a while) that a mob of youths gathered in Leeds, a guy was shot and they all legged it so that didn't kick off.

So lucky that no one living above the shops was killed...

From the BBC Live site http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14449675
Image
1005:A woman jumps from a burning building in Surrey Street last night in London as rescuers prepare to catch her

1053:More on that Parliament flash. Matthew Hancock MP (West Suffolk) has just told BBC Radio Suffolk that Parliament has just been recalled for Thursday.

Just confirmed by Cameron...being recalled for one day. It's the summer recess here and school hols hence so many kids out on the streets.

Still at least one huge fire burning in London. I think it might be a distrbution centre in Enfield ...only seen aerial footage with no caption.

it's all good to make jokes but these c***s are burning innocent people's homes & shops. Simple. They are BREAKING THE LAW IN A BIG WAY! Shoot them once each in the face, they won't do it again.

Most reports say these kids are, on average, around 14, 15, 16 years old so shooting children in the face is not that likely to reslove the situation

yeah, you're right.......and teaching the Koran to 3, 4 and 5 year old Muslims doesn't teach them to hate Christians with a passion & want to blow them up either. Nip it in the bud NOW. Sorry.
