Big Darryl Eastlake dies aged 75.

To quote a former colleague, " no one watched weight lifting before Darryl called it and no one has watched since he stopped".

He made me stop watching weightlifting.

Wally Foreman (RIP) was 10 x better than him, let the picture tell the story and as a a more informed broadcaster of sport (Wally was the Director of the WA Institute of Sport in the 1990s) e.g. 1982 C Games when I first got hooked on Weightlifting

Eastlakes abuse on the Today show pre Sydney 2000 of the late great RobertPaddick (sports/PE Educator at Sturt SACAE/Flinders University) showed how miss-informed that individual was when it came to sport. He was just a talking head whose only skill as a broadcaster was to raise his voice.

Didn't want to comment on Eastlakes passing but couldn't let that go, sorry DOC, and while his passing is sad for his family and you shouldn't speak ill of the dead, his abuse of Bob Paddick made me sad.

It's been good watching the European Weightlifting champs prior to the C/Games on EuroSport

Are you thinking Bob Paddick or Bob Withers (Australian over 60 82 Kg Bench Press record holder). Both taught at Flinders Uni/Sturt SACAE.

You're right I had Bob Withers as a lecturer and Bob Paddick for one of my PE tutes. (To be fair, this was about 25 years ago..LOL)

But yes, Bob Paddick was a lovely bloke and a very good teacher.

At least Centrals won for you today, even if it was only against a very weak Adelaide Reserves. Your boys got some goal kicking practice.
