Sorry to hear Wedgie. I have a mate with stage 4 brain cancer...and just a matter of time before this happens.

Cheers mate, sorry to hear about your mate too.
It's just getting too often now. So sad, was just having this conversation with my best mate how sad it is especially when we all feel mentally like we're 19.
I've lost 4 really close mates over the last 5 years and am about to lose another.
It's almost getting to the stage that I have more close mates dead than alive. :(

Interesting they have done that, friends of ours sons first shift was in the dementia ward, patient passed away and they made him wash the body by himself . He had nightmares for weeks and never went back. I wonder if that’s how they “weed” the newbies out?

It takes a special kind of person to work in that field, I highly respect those that do, I know I couldn't hack it as I'd grow too attached to people as I always seem to form friendships with the older generation.

I hope it doesn't dishearten Jnr Jase and at least he's getting exposed to it early to learn what's in store, sorry, there's no nice way of sugar coating it.

That is poor form IMO, that's military sort of stuff.

One of my mates joined the army at a young age, they were playing war games in FNQ and they ordered him to drive a truck through dense rugged terrain despite having minimal driving experience, he rolled the the truck injuring quite a few and f*****d his back for life.

Poor kid was weeping into his chicken burger last night... We spent a lot of time de-briefing him and encouraging him last night and this morning...

He put his scrubs on dusted himself off and went off to placement this morning and hopefully when we get home this evening his day would have been better...

As someone who walked the floors of 200 Fosters rd, is mentioned in the ICAC report into the Oakden Nursing Home and have a well read copy of of Aaron Groves Chief Psychiatrist report into the same, Dementia/Psycho Geriatric nursing has "job for life" written all over it.

Aaron Groves report highlights the staff requirements for the tier 6-7 dementia type patients and the specialist facilities required even the tier 4 and 5 NH types require extra care needs.

With an aging population we are going to need more clinicians with expertise in psycho geriatric nursing who can deal with patients who like to p!ss on powerpoints, throw fire extinguishers at staff, nurse dolls all day and "feed the chickens" openly.....

it's openly confronting and nauseating when you see it (as that is not who the patient was in real life before dementia took over) but if you can handle it and maintaining your clinical ethics and keep treating them as a person who they were not the patient they are, he will be in demand.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Well, after a very emotional Tuesday the rest of the week has been better for the lad... He had to laugh on Wednesday when the lady that he was helping decided that it would be a good time to, erm, defecate on his shoes...

Though he did tell us that one of the carers shouted at him yesterday, because he didn't have enough food for lunch and he needed to eat more... He is working in an Italian Nursing home... The Nonnas love feed up the men :)

That Macca refused his indication into the Aussie Rules Hall of Fame, my favourite non-Glenelg player and while I understand his reasons its a pity that the rest of the football world does not get to admire how good he was and his impact on the game, something he fully deserves.

SACA are running a stack of multicultural blast centres around the state - my club is going to host the "India" one.

The amount of abuse I received last night from people with no cricket affiliation or background because we were hosting an "Indian centre" was unbelievable!

They just didn't get the concept of what was happening or how broad the program was.

"I'm not racist but... "
