Mate, I watched it all unfold when all my mates were raving on about their pay increases and industrial action, I knew it would be the death of the site, they were getting insane pay rates and stacks of weekend work at double time, it was always going to come to a halt, unions!!!

I'm seeing the same with people I know in WA that were part of the mining boom. Many of them are now back in "real world" wages and are not struggling but there's lots of Harley's, V8 Utes, hotrods and boats for sale in Perth now many of them aren't getting the coin they were.

We're in manufacturing and have had dozens of ex-Holdens workers come and apply after we contacted a re-employment agency set up as part of the Holden shut down. Basically all of them have asked "What's the pay rate?" in the first contact, some of them over the phone before they even looked further into the position.

Most of them have laughed at us despite our factory workers getting above award rates.
I'm well aware that I will not be on as much as I was but still will be looking for a job that's suitably paid, I have an idea of what I could be paid with the few jobs on Seek I've looked at already.

I took advantage of what I was paid and the overtime hours I could do at stages over the last 8 years (probably had something like 11/12 pay increases from a first year apprentice to now with pay increases as per as very generous EBA), I also never had alot of time off so I saved a shit load of money before I bought my house so I'm way in front on my mortgage and my repayments are very manageable. I can get even further ahead with what I'm planning to do with part my redundancy package, just have to wait to get another job first before I use that money to my benefit.

If you secure employment quick enough you can waste your redundancy on hookers and blow!

Yeah mate, I hate myself sometimes when I think back to when I worked in our factory and done shitloads of overtime.

Too much cricket? Never haha. My brother and I are huge cricket nerds and the women in our lives don't understand lol.

All the best lad, decent blokes like you deserve a bit of luck going their way. As a fellow cricket nuffie I reckon you should've been getting kickbacks for your cricket thread.
