Like WUB- I actually found them very useful. We had a class of about 8 couples, and were all great people. Certainly in that environment, all embarrassment is left at the door and you do what is necessary, even if it means you are subject to role playing a birth (yep- I was the poor sucker role playing the father, oh the joys ).

Thankfully, there were no imbeciles in our group either (no premature sympathy for the unborn child required!), but there was 1 bloke who, in the opinion of the entire class bar his partner, had a ripping sense of humor and made it pretty enjoyable. The funniest part was his poor partner, every time he cracked a joke or made a comment, would just roll the eyes, even shifting her back towards him. Pregnancy isnt funny to some

His best gag was when we were assigned to groups, blokes in 1 room and girls in the other, and the exercise being for the blokes to formulate ideas on what we should be doing for our ladies pre and post labour, and the girls were assigned ideas on what they thought we should be doing. We all got back together and this bloke gets up and rattles off things like massages, sugar, fluids, encouragement, music, television, to light hearted humour such as small goods and ridding the mother in law ( ), when straight as an arrow, he looked at the instructor and said "but I couldnt think of anything that the lads need to do"

Once again, his mrs saw nothing funny about it, but certainly brought some colour to the class!

Seeing the labour ward and the maternity ward made it pretty real, and the bathing of the new born was something I was very thankful I watched, particularly as our instructor began to rattle off little tips when the little one cries. Obviously each baby is going to be different but handy thought for the vault I can assure you.

Although there is nothing like on the job training for the biggest task you will ever undertake, the classes albeit mundane and seemingly pointless at the time certainly give first time parents some handy little advice to take away with them. Like any adult learning, you take out of it how much you put into it.

I think you also take heart in knowing someone else out there is shitting themselves as much as you are!

We even kept in touch with another couple from when our lad was born and 18 years later it's likely we'll invite each other to the respective birthday parties. We see each other very rarely, about 4 times in 18 years, but emails and texts regularly get exchanged.

My wife has hit the part of pregnancy were any real showing of affection by myself is almost as bad as calling her names...
And also has some sort of pillow fort going on her side of the bed, to make it more comfortable for her... or to keep me away

almost 33 weeks down and the missus is well and truly over it!!!!

Just a tip to all expecting there first child...

Lads when you come home from work and your wife asks you to do something. DO NOT reply with "i've been working all day"..... It will not end well... Unfortunately said that very early into my parenting.... won't be doing that again

Well first cab off the rank was Arch44, whose wife had a baby boy yesterday.

Carey is up next I believe, followed by WUB and then Valleys07.

Am I missing anyone? WUB did you end up finding out whether yours was boy or girl?

We need someone that doesn't know so we can do a sweep

Now it's a the pointy end it's time to consider what should or should not be muttered during the hours of labor, prior to the delivery.

Things like :

When the very first signs of labor come along, the "go bag" is packed and ready and things look they're about to start happening, be certain that "2 points with 2 minutes to go" will not, I repeat it will not be reason to stay on the lounge.

As she screams with a contraction : "I know what that feels like, I'm always cramping after I've played footy" - That's a no no.

As she writhes in pain with the baby making it entry to the world : ( Look at the doctor ) "I hope you field in the slips mate, 'coz this one's going to come at you fast!" - That's another no no. A definite no no.

COngratulations to Carey and Mrs Carey on the arrival of their new baby girl born at 9.30am. :D

6 pound 10., which is not bad considering she wasn't even 37 weeks along.

Thank you FC yep we welcomed little Pheobe Rose this morning. Beautiful and fighting fit although now I am a little concerned as she is now 2 and 1/2 hours in and hasn't made a noise so unlike any female I've ever meet!

Heater red cans aplenty Saturday night when we beat the bombers! Your more than welcome.....

Will Boon, Valleys and The other FC be at the game? It's also my return to the coaches box this week.

Congrats, Carey!!! Enjoying the miracle of life this time around?
