Why were they flying over a war zone? At 33,000 feet you would think not much could happen.....

I flew over Iraq 2 weeks ago. Was really cool looking down at the Kuwait border which was all lit up. To be fair though the ruskis to have AA guns that would reach that high.

That's being polite...

In some fairness you would be naive if you didn't think automatically that these 2 were connected considering the world doesn't even know how the first went off the radar (not the public anyway). Would be interested whether there were any people connected to intelligence on both flights. There are hundreds of carriers who pass through Europe and Asia it's a coincidence that will never happen again if it was the 1 airline.

The numbers being crunched out by the bean counters @ MA in the last half would be frightening. Good enough reason for me to think twice before jumping on a M A or Air Aisa flight again...

When I flew Singapore to London in 2011 we crossed Afghanistan between Kabul and Kandahar.
I think it would be wise to take a longer route rather than cross war zones and rely on altitude to make it safe given we now know rebel groups can access high altitude missile systems.
