JIMMY DEANES - south adelaide footy club

a few years ago was really good value.

my last visit resulted in my medium rare steak being very well done.

the missus went for lunch on Sunday and ordered a parmi which was lacking in the topping. She sent it back but they made no effort.

The end result is that they are now banned

Fancy Burgers come close, but the chips at Burger Foundry are the tits.

Actually, I take my first comment back. Jack Ruby does the best burgers, but it can be a touch pretentious down there (and they don't do takeaway).

Ive been meaning to go see what Jack Rubys like. I can see how it would be pretentious. Looks like where hipster lawyers would hang out, if there is such a thing.

I went to Gauchos for EOFY dinner when I was doing a traineeship at a financial planning firm when I was 18. The directors (husband and wife outfit) thought they were pretty fancy (they lived at Greenacres and drove a Camry) and I hated them with all my heart.

Anywhooo...myself and the top accountant had a competition who could rack up the biggest individual bill for the dinner. I ordered a steak that was around $80 and smashed the $14 Coronas all night. I think it was pretty close in the end, but he would've won. Would've been about $250+ each.

The steak was awesome, except the only topping was huge chunks of garlic. No sauce, no nothing.

Caught the train home from city to Smithfield train station at midnight on a Friday night, alone and drunk. Never have I had a more carefree train ride ;)

Thats my story anyway.

I feel like it is inexcusable to stuff up a steak or schnitzel. They are both so easy to cook. You literally do nothing but time it correctly.

The Bartley, The Newmarket ( Port Adelaide ), The Port Dock, The Lighthouse, The Dockside, The Birkenhead, The Exeter ( Semaphore Road ), Sullys Cafe ( Semaphore Road - highly recommended for breakfast!! ), The Red Ass ( Semaphore Road ).

Many of these are, simply, just pubs. The stand outs are the Birkenhead and Sullys.

We normally hit somewhere for a meal on a Thursday, this thread should be good as we look to head North / City bound more often.

Yes, I went to Unley once. ;)

Had tea there last night (Blacksmith inn) was awesome. Battered Onion rings were the best I've ever had and the Pork Fillet was amazing.

I rate Sweet Chilli in Paralowie, Chinese joint behind the Clovercrest and Uleybury winery is awesome as well although I doubt anyone has even heard of the place

Five minutes from my place. Unfortunately, we've never been there as there's a winery even closer to my place ;)

Got the entertainment book and went out with the old man "R.I.P Big Dog" once a week on the usage of a voucher. I have a penchant for discounts and could also be considered cheap so I did something fairly similar with Madam Wristy.

Ended up using close to a 100 of the two for ones and some of the 25% off vouchers so if anyone has specific questions on restaurants or pubs then chances are we have been there and could give a rating and positive and negatives.

Stand Out in 2013

Stonehouse Grill on Port Road was sensational for taste, value for money and portion with good service staff who are not ugly :) as a 2 for 1 it represents awesome value and was both of our favourites.

The Shocker of 2013

The Empire in Kilburn. Nuff said, hell NO! Upon entry we were told its the English Buffet all you can eat for $13, that's two meals for $13. Unfortunately the food was disgusting and for some reason unbeknown to any normal human the chef stood at the buffet drinking water from a plastic food container. We offered him a glass but he said declined. The only nice item was the Jam donuts but I bit into one and the jam burnt my lip horribly causing an immediate blister and the appearance of Herpees for about a week. Wouldn't eat there again if it was free. None the less an improvement from the only other times I was there when my car was stolen from the car park.

Best recent deal of 2014

Went to the Bridgeway on Sunday in the bistro and the salad and vegetable bar is very good with all the usual faves including potato bake and seafood salad, rolls were good and warm and the butter soft (sometimes its the little things) I had a Chicken schnitzel Kilpatrick and it was awesome. Big serve, nice meat, excellent topping and well presented. Service was a bit sow but not horrendous. Lady Wristy had Rissotto so I have no idea how it was as I hate Rissotto
