Kent Town Hotel (Jungle Restaurant)

Headed there for lunch on the long weekend Monday in a group of 6 (Missus and 2 kids + Mate and his young lad).

We'd been warned prior that there would be a surcharge for the Public Holiday, all good, booking made and off we went.

Big area (where the Golf range used to) all decked out like a Jungle with Tree Houses set up for secluded tables, Trees and Gorilla's everywhere, and a coupla slides for the kids entertainment, Unfortunately the big slide was out of action for maintenance, but the kids had quite a few go's on the smaller.

Menu was excellent, with plenty of things I wanted to try. Eventually settled on a Pie with Lamb, Sweet Potato and some other stuff I can't remember. This things was friggin' huge and delish. Not being a big eater I couldn't finish it, took some home, eventually managed to polish it off late that night.

Missus had a Lamb Salad which she didn't mind - Effectively looked like a Green Salad with slices of Roast Lamb added. Mate had the Crispy Skin Atlantic Salmon with Sweet Potato Fries. Looked great and he seemed well enough impressed. All other meals I noticed coming out seemed to be sizeable,

Kids all had Nuggets and Chips and hardly touched them (My kids baulk at any Nuggets that don't look like the Maccas variety). The 3 of us adults tried them and were suitably impressed, in fact possibly the best Nuggets I've ever tasted,

There's a Salad Bar included, albeit it's a bit of a token one with not a lot to offer, nevertheless those that partook were happy enough with it.

Food was very well priced I thought for the fare on offer, and was very enjoyable - Took a little while from ordering for the food to come out (Nuggets about 15 minutes, Adult mains around 45 mins) but we weren't in a rush so didn't mind. As it turned out, on Mondays/Public Holidays kids eat free, so that was an added bonus.

They have (I think) 24 beers on tap, and a large range of wine, spirits, Champas etc, and the bar looked pretty funky so no issues with lubrication.

Pretty keen to head back there just because there's plenty on the menu I wouldn't mind trying.

Service: 8.0
Atmosphere: 9.0
Food Quality: 8.0
Price: 8.0

Total Rate: 8.25

More than happy to recommend.

Been there on a couple of work functions where we book a bungalow and get the works, great food but would be pricey for the average Joe.

The women seemed to love getting on the gas and going down the slides, good novelty.

Finally cashing in on our Holdfast Scoupon tonight, a pointless drive that will cut into my drinking time for a feed that neither of us are real keen on but can't have it go to waste.

Just looking at their menu online and I reckon they might have dropped their prices by a coupla bucks, but not updated on their website? EDIT: Wrong Menu, we actually ate off the Bistro Menu.

The Salmon my mate had was $25, my Pie $21, Missus Lamb Salad $22 .. Schnitties are $19 which I'd guess is toward the higher end of the scale, but looked a good size. Seemed reasonable for an Eastern Suburbs venue with kids meals included at $0.

Not that I've been there regularly, but have never had a bad meal at the Kent Town over the years.

Yeah, I think when I looked at the banquet styled thing for a birthday it was about a ton per head, experiencing the big kebab like things we got served up was something else.

Can't knock that for salmon, it costs us that to cook one each at home.

German Spoon in Hahndorf -

Went to Hahndorf on the holiday Monday and met up with another family with young kids. We rang prior but they weren't taking bookings as it was a Public Holiday - no problems there. When we arrived it was quite busy and we needed a table to fit 4 adults and 3 kids. The boss man said he would be able to accommodate us very shortly, but then stopped mid sentence and asked if we were going to use an Entertainment Book voucher. We replied yes and he then said he would take our mobile number and call us if anything became available....in probably 45 mins to an hour. Not ideal as the kids were hungry and I was thirsty. We were standing out the front waiting for the other family to arrive when the missus spotted a table become available about 5 mins later, and a waitress came over and asked if it would be suitable. We jumped at it and we all fit.

The kids had nuggets and chips and the adults went for schnitzels. The food came out in reasonable time and Junior Pirate jumped straight into a nugget which I was thinking is probably still dripping in oil. Preparing myself for the shriek of a burning mouth i headed towards her plate to cut up her crumbed chicken parcels....no shriek, not even a whimper, the food was at an edible temperature for a 3yo. Hmmm, so was my schnitzel and chips. It was like my first bite was after 10 minutes of the plate sitting in front of me.

The food was okay and the waitresses were good. I wasn't a fan of the manager/owner. Vouchers were a 2 for 1 so we got away with 2 adult meals plus tepid nuggets and chips and a couple of beers for just under $50.00.

6.5/10.

Stopped on the way out to get a couple of apple pies......9/10.

Been out a couple times and noticed places with a chalkboard message saying they are no longer accepting entertainment book discounts, even though they were in the ENT book - HTF does that happen?

Aren't most vouchers unusable at peak times?

Friday, Saturday and public holidays?
