Blumberg Hotel - Birdwood

Apple picking, wine tasting, pub lunch in the hills. Ripper day out yesterday.

The Blumberg, in Birdwood would be a great spot on a Thursday night if you're a local, not quite so inviting for a visitor but who doesn't like an old pub in the hills? Sat out the front in the sunshine, pale for me. Rose for the other bit.

She went a beef with pepper (the only predictable thing she does) and I went the Pork Belly Burger with slaw. Dayum!

Huge schnitty, chips were underneath though. Big lump of pork belly in a good sized bun, wedges with sweet chilli, not chips. Pork Belly was outstanding, juicy, but firm, fatty, but not too much.

$52 with the drinks, not all together cheap, but happy enough with what we got. I don't think they build their business around the kitchen somehow.

Price 6/10
Quality 6/10
Atmosphere 6/10

6/10, happy to go there on the day out but wouldn't go out of my way to head back there.

Last couple Sundays i've ordered Uber Eats from a place called Fusion Thai Cuisine at Athol Park.. had to re-order last night just to make sure it was as good as i first thought (had a few wines before the first time, and everything always tastes better). Wasn't disappointed.

Serve of vegetarian spring rolls, said 3 pieces on the menu but received 4 smallish ones - ideal in the end, perfect size for Jnr Bedge and shared around without impacting on mains.

Ka-Nar Moo Krob for my main - Crispy pork belly less fat with chinese cokchoy and served with rice.. absolutely amazing. Slight hint of chilli, enough to tingle the tongue but not overpowering, whilst the fact it came with rice as well was a big tick - generally you have to order rice as a side. Sweet and tender pork belly beautifully marinated in the sauce.. New favourite.

Mrs Bedge got the Panang curry.. gorgeous vibrant and creamy curry, like the pork belly dish had a subtle hint of heat but was cooked to perfection.. even the kids ate some.

Pad Thai was the 3rd main (yes i eat a lot) - i didn't get much of it, was a little disappointed by what little i had but the kids who are fussy devoured it, so was a winner for them.

Thai Fried rice - cant really mess this up, and they didn't. Not a real fried rice fan but the kids are and like the Pad Thai didn't last long.. Jnr Bedge was like a pig in shit hoovering away.

Twice ordered, twice satisfied.. it's a beauty.

For $20 per person we had an entree platter with 1 spring roll, 1 dim sim, 1 small bahn mi each.

Main plate was 1 pork chop each, some chilli chicken in noodle salad, some char grilled lemon chicken, pork belly in noodles and steamed rice.

More than enough, fresh, char grilled goodness, cannot recommend it enough for the value for money.

Beers, local, $7, imported, $8.

Trailer Boat Club - Darwin

Having moved back up I have become a member of this fine establishment - $50 for the year.

There best dish is the Asian inspired barramundi, fresh local barramundi on an Asian style 'slaw with rice, for $30 (member price).

Bloody sensational.

Good selection of beers and with members prices they are very competitive. 1 x Imperial PINT (NT PINT) of Coopers pale, 1 x PINT of Coopers Pale (NT Schooner) and one Rekorderling Cider for $18. Yes I am having to lower my standards and slum it with Pales

The food is ordered from the bistro and it is good pub food quality.

Food Quality 6/10
Value 8/10 (for members)
Atmosphere 10/10 (see below)

Love that joint.
Drinking beers there is as good as any place I’ve been.
