An oldy but a goody.
Reminded of it tonight as I bought a carton of Budweiser as it was only $1 more than a carton of Paley.
Love my Paleys, easily the no 1 beer but godawful for hangovers.
After a few Buds tonight I'm missing my paleys though.
I think I prefer Millers to Bud as far as Yank beers goes.
Other fav beers:
Carlsburg
Does anyone know if West End still make that pilsner 107?
Used to love them, drank them by the bucket loads when they first came out but then they put them up to $10 more than normal beer and I think they ground to a halt sales wise then.

sitting here having a Paley as I type, definitely my beer of choice
I have been doing a bit of a search on the internet tonite of home brew sites as I just
started doing home brew again after a break of 5 years. Just bottled a Coopers Pale
Ale so it will be interesting to see how it goes
have been looking for other recipes now as I seem to have the bug
Carlsburg is good, try Nastro Azurro (Italian) very good clean beer and easy to drink (too easy

)

What's the verdict on Coopers Lager?

Haven't tried it yet, I'm too scared after trying their Draught a couple of times.
godoubleblues,
I haven't made home brew for over 10 years now but I can safely say the best beer I've ever had of all time was a home brew I made with a Coopers mix (I think it wa a Lager). Very sweet and tasted like Ginger Beer and had about 7% alcohol, Mrs Wedgie hates beer but drank that, their home brews are the best in the world. My parents make home brews but insist on paying about $2 less per mix and get the cheapy crap instead of Coopers, I berate them constantly as I drink most of it when I'm at their place!

The best beer without doubt I have tried was the Czech Pilsener brewed at the Old Lion circa 1990.
6.7 % and just the most beautiful tasting brew ever.
There is a bottle shop on Jetty Rd at the Bay that get a lot of imported beers in and they sell a 6 pack of Czech Pilsener for $19 and it is up there with the Old Lion brew but not quite.
Still very tasty and doesn't leave you with a nasty headache.

Best beer I've ever had is the Coopers Dark Ale. Go down really well. Also a fan of Coopers Draught and Carlton Draught. Cant say I like WE Draught or VB at all though. Not a huge fan of the Pale Ale, its not bad, but there is a lot better out there. Cascade Pale Ale is like drinking water straight from the Franklin River. Nothing comes close to the Coopers Dark Ale.

yeh I used to predominantly do Coopers and started again with a Coopers as you generally cant go wrong with them, but as with commercial beers these days there are plenty of different brands around now and most of them are definitely drinkable
the only times I ever had a bad batch was probaby because I didnt clean my stuff properly

I rate coopers Sparkling ale highly. i find it has a much more stronger flavour than pale. Sparkling ale would have to be one of the best premium beers in the world in my opinion.
anyone who has worked in a pub would know the best part of pale is the end of the keg, where it poors really thick and yeasty. Thats the best part, it's where all the flavour is!!!!
I do also like the coopers premium lager. It is a substitute for the draught product, but it is a much better beer than the draught.
As far as foreign lagers go... I love a heineken and a becks.

Correct on both fronts, IMHO.
I quite like Southwark Premium, even if it is owned by the evil Lion Nathan empire.
Mountain Goat is magnificent beer here in Melbourne, on tap or in stubbies. Little Creatures is also a great ale from the Matilda Bay stable. For a little less alcohol, Rogers from the same stable has an apricotty fruitiness about it at under 4%.
Tried a new one last night - Qilmes from Argentina. Had a bit of Cooper-ness to it.
And I also must agree with the "clean beer" assessment on Nastro Azzuro.

Sorry I did not lend my expert opinion to this thread earlier in the weekend; I was too busy drinking beer to log on.
Pseudo's Ozzy beers of choice:
Southwark Premium. Heavily underrated.
Cascade Pale. Also heavily underrated.
Cascade Light - the only light beer that I will happily guzzle.
Cascade Lager
James Boags Premium
Coopers Pale
Coopers Dark
Coopers Stout
Tooheys Old
Matilda Bay Pils (now sold as Bohemian Pilzner?)
James Squire Pils
Pseudo's imported beers of choice
Bitburger
Pilsener Urquell
Kronenbourg
Leffe Dark
Common swillwater that Pseudo wouldn't even serve to Port supporters:
VB
Crown Lager - bottom of the premium beer barrel
Hoegaarden - arguably the worst beer on the planet. I want a beer that tastes like beer, not like frickin' cloves of nutmeg.
VB (again)
West End Draught is at least drinkable, if nothing spectacular. Years of being fed it at the footy have inured my tastebuds to the worst of it.
The West End 107 stuff was pointless. Tasted vaguely like a pilsener when you cracked it, but by the end of the bottle the taste had vanished and you realised you were drinking warm draught.

I agree Crown Lager is over rated Soap Suds, very similar to Foster's Lager. I like Boag's Premium, Cooper's Pale and Mild for everyday drinking. Of the overseas beers Jever Pils (Germany) my favourite, but unavailable in Australia, Bitburger is good, Pilsener Urquell and
Czcech Budweiser. The Yank Bud is Crap, but Samuel Adams isn't bad for a Yank beer

VB - Vitamin Beer.

Both absolute winners. I've only had the Budovar in London years ago, but remember it was a cracking good beer. Those crazy, crazy Czechs....

Booney,
I totally agree. I don't know what's going through sammy's head. Too not rate coopers in your top 10 is a crime!!!
Booney, Your list is right on the money.

I only went to number 9, i might just be able to fit a coopers beer in at number 10.
