Cheers mate, still got a hand in the old work, but as you know times change and you have to adapt.
So I "grew a set" and got on with it!

Good luck buying a property for a reasonable price! Not a cheap place to buy anything that's close to anywhere decent.

Never used to think this in the old days. Did a reconnaissance of Melbourne in 2012 when on holidays from Japan, and have described it as a big Adelaide ever since. Visited again in 2015 & 2016.

Time for an update here.....

Well I have been over here for over 3 years now. Mrs C & MIss C for over 2 years. We are on the verge of putting our house back in the Adelaide Hills on the market for sale. Any takers?? It has been a big move for Mrs C..... it is the home we raised our kids in, but she has realized its time to move on. I will miss the old place too.

The home has been rented out for the past 2 years, and we were back over Xmas/New Years just gone cleaning up a few things, including 25 years of "collections" in my shed. I mean, how do you throw out a treasured beer can collection...... not too mention 2 sets of old golf clubs?!?

Like all vendors, hoping for a quickish sale, and to get what we think is a reasonable selling price. The plan then is to "park" our cash for 6/8 months while our rental lease runs down, and then find ourselves a home over here we are happy with, and importantly, can afford!

I'd estimate the market values in Melbourne to be roughly double that of Adelaide. Certainly my home in the Adelaide Hills is worth double in a goodish area of Melbourne. So while I can't afford double the price, to replace "like for like" living in a 3 bedroom townhouse for 3 years has taught us we really don't need the 4 bedroom joint with formal lounge, dining, family, meals PLUS games room anymore. I while I haven't really missed mowing a lawn for 3 years, to have a small one to maintain would be fun again. Not too mention setting up my outdoor area a little better than it currently is.... I mean my Hawks painted wine barrel, with all the premierships listed is under a tarp in my single car garage. Can't wait to spill red wine on it again!

Hoping 2020 is the year we make the home transition, smoothly as possible.

Melbourne is not bad really - much easiler to get around in than Sydney.

I lived in Melbourne for 10 years and quite liked it, but I was living in the Dandenong Ranges and working in the outer eastern suburbs which made it manageable. I rarely went into the city by day but found the treck into AMA-Vic committee evening meetings in Parkville once a month a bit tedious.

I moved there in 1999 because of issues in my wife's family, and enjoyed stirring my Hawthorn and Carlton supporting colleages about the two recent Crows premierships.

When that wife died in 2008, and I had retired from private practice during her illness, I tossed up moving to a unit in Southbank or coming back to Adelaide, and chose Adelaide and my old friends in the end.

Well this transition has taken a lot longer than we first thought.

Sold our home in the Adelaide Hills back in April this year, and since then have been watching the market here in Melbourne, and inspected quite a few properties, over 2 years - looking for the right one. The original plan was to get a townhouse here & keep the property in SA. That got all too hard.

During Covid lockdown there was very little on the market.

As things have begun opening up over here in the past few weeks, we are seeing a lot more of interest.

We are focusing on 1 place in particular that will go to Auction in a few weeks time. Ticking all the boxes, in particular location. From a lifestyle perspective its perfect. We expect Miss C, who has now completed uni, may only be living with us for another 2/3 years. From then on in, just me & Mrs C.

A few things we would like to do to this place, including a deck out the back..... need somewhere for my Hawks wine barrel to take pride of place.

Fingers crossed that on Auction day, things go our way.
