Correct, and well done on that. However, sadly, not everyone has the ability or sense to plan like that. We have to remember that some people in society have very little financial literacy or knowledge of how things work. Some have enough trouble just affording their groceries (or, in perhaps as many cases, suffer from mental health issues and/or squander money through addictions to cigarettes, alcohol, gambling etc.). In an ideal world, it would be wonderful if people could budget and put aside a few dollars a week to cope with future bills. This is what we try to get them to do, by providing budgeting counselling and also sometimes limiting our assistance to them until they have taken steps to improve their management of money. However, many don't think about future bills until they actually arrive.

Cheers

Sorry, I certainly didn't mean to come across as know it all or anything like that... we used to struggle to pay the bills (sometimes it still is a close run thing) when Mrs Jase wasn't working due to the boys (her choice).

We just thought we would give a go with paying a portion each pay... and it as generally worked well for us...

Again apologies if any offence as taken. :(

No offence taken at all. You are correct in everything you say as well. I wish all people operated the same way. It is just an unfortunate aspect of this world that some people struggle when it comes to managing their finances, not just because of a shortage of funds, but also because of a lack of understanding of how to actually physically manage their funds. I wish there was more effort placed in helping people understand how to get the most out of their money, and how to manage hard times.

$230 per quarter (or thereabouts) for me - and even that's only because I leave the telly on for the cat to watch some days

You leave the TV on so your cat can watch it? You're kidding, aren't you?

Seriously though, I don't actually leave it on for the cat, i'm usually in so much of a hurry in the mornings that I forget to switch it off but when I get home she's sitting on the bed and appears to be watching

$230 a quarter is real cheap.
I assume she has gas as well?

At the end of the day you can pay your bill daily if you like it doesn't actually change the fact we have the highest electricity rate in the world.

Something needs to be done........ most of us on here are fortunate enough that regardless of the price we just pay it and move on.

As a 40 something year old with my head up my ar$e I've recently volunteered my time to help with the homeless and boy is it an eye opener.
I appreciate far more than I ever use to believe me.

If you ever want to help the homeless or the aged pensioners who are struggling, I say go for it as it changes you and your perspective on life.

Catt will only pay attention to the TV when the baseballs on. Anything else and he just snoozes.

I agree entirely, Amber. Have been helping out as a volunteer for Vinnies about 15 hours a week for the past 20 years. It is what gives me the drive to get up in the morning. Well done on taking the plunge.
