If normal butter is used instead? Sure. That's a sugar block.

my wife works at haighs as a chocolate maker and they dont call their white chocolate "chocolate" even though it most definitely contains cocoa butter

Its on the Haighs website as White Chocolate?

And as I said, its no doubt a common and perhaps even in the majority myth, but it doesn't hold up to simple logic when you look at the reasons why.

Almosts as if its. ... #fakenews

White chocolate has cocoa butter but not cocoa solids.

All stirring aside, I guess it comes down for me to the fact that to me "white chocolate" tastes like sugar and oil, not like chocolate.
I concede it is a purely subjective distinction, and to me many low cocoa-solid containing "milk chocolates" are too sweet and don't taste like what I call chocolate either.

On the other hand I do find the 70% ones a bit too bitter.

For me, when there are rules in place which allow or disallow brands being able to market something as chocolate (or not) depending on the use of cocoa butter (or not) - it's pretty clear.

Totally agree that stuff like Dream, Milky Bar etc isn't chocolate, Its sugar and milk. But you can buy White Chocolate that is 30% Cocoa Butter. Thats chocolate.
