Combination of the two.

Literally pressing the suicide button on our childrens futures because of this.

Sadly whether we like it or not we live in an over populated world which will always have some form of risk of death whether thats mother nature, viruses, self caused wars.

The other issue is the precedent this sets, what guarentees do we have that we wont have a similar virus in to years time, three years time. Are we going to shut world down each time.

I think the fact that the world didn’t shut down for SARS, MERS, Ebola, Bird Flu, Swine Flu etc shows just how serious the experts are treating this. I’m not buying into the media sensationalism but many in the medical profession are concerned. I hope they are wrong and just being overly cautious

Just speaking to a local doctor who i play cricket with he believes alot of it is down to modern day work, health and safety requirements moreso than with SARS, Ebola etc.

Every business now has to have an Emergency Action Plan and once the word 'Panademic' was used businesses have no choice but to evacuate their current emergency action plan against panademic.

From what I understand, whilst it's only a virus similar to flu etc, there is a larger risk of contamination due to the delay in symptoms showing.

Also it is a greater risk for older age people, and people with pre-existing health conditions.

Given there are no current vaccines like you have with a flu shot, and the late symptoms it could be hard to get under control any time soon.

Agree.

Thats the worry for mine. Forgetting my holiday every week we 'close' the world we are killing our future.

What 'number' of cases is going to be acceptable as we are never going to reach zero cases. Do we reopen at 100,000 cases but close at 100,001.

Surely they cant shut the world for a year.

Personally i believe some of the current effects of this are more damaging to our population than the very small percentage affected. Casual employees losing hours and financial stresses that come with, local businneses being forced to shut down. Social implications from people not being able to see their favourite sporting teams. its hard to put a price/number on the mental health all that provides our community and could potentially be lost.

So far the affect on myself has been - all international work travel suspended. I have NZ again in April, and then a trade show in Bangkok in May that now look dicey. Longer term I have more NZ trips plus a Sri Lanka trip penciled in for mid year that are now on hold.

A Trade golf day in a fortnight going ahead at this stage, but who really knows.

The worst of this is yet to come for sure.

Off to the GP on Sunday..... should I get myself a face mask?

Only if you're infected.

It seems the role of face masks is to prevent you spreading it, rather than prevent you from getting it, going by the advice posted by the AMA:

Nah, they wear them so they don't die from lung disease from the heavy pollution in China.

There was an amazing picture of how much the air quality has improved in China since everyone has been in lock down

I’m sitting in Brisbane airport right now.
I couldn’t find a seat/table to eat my sushi so I went and stood next to a table of asians wearing face masks.
They took one look at me, saw I’m not wearing a mask and they all got up and left.
Whole table to myself now.

Sweat, and cough a bit, you'll have the entire food court to yourself!

Supposing AFL games do go ahead with crowds locked out, how will UK Fan react to a Port attendance of zero?

Poses the question........
Do members get reimbursed for non attendance?
