So it's not a great day?

Not when some one suicides.

My heart goes out to all the families of loved ones who have ended their lives due to two years of various pressures from Covid policies in Australia.

Which is no one.

No I don't agree with you. I believe the lockdown has played havoc with mental health. How could it not?

This was also something that was a massive problem previously and this was only going to escalate in the current environment.

It's sad but I really don't know what can be done at the moment.

That being said, remember people speak up and try and find some help. Whilst we are mostly a bunch of wankers here, we can certainly listen if needed. And as you have seen, we don't really work at work so something is always around.

Doc is closer to the mark than people think.

Less than 10% of an Adelaide health networks known mental health consumers who suicided last financial year had any evidence of mentioning Covid in their clinical record as known stressors. All known MH suicides in SA of persons who present to MH services are reviewed even if it’s just a presentation to MHS in the ED in the last six months. This involves a complete review of notes.

Not denying Covid is having a negative effect on people’s mental health and people are presenting to Mental health services due to the ongoing stress associated to Covid but to say it’s the reason why people are suiciding right now is plain wrong.

Yes you are right Stan the stats are out there at certain stages thru Covid

Kids help line calls up 16%
Life line calls up 32%
Beyond Blue calls up 57%

But also the data now shows calls and interactions have stabilised to pre Covid numbers

Here is some pretty lengthy data.
