Im off to Darwin tomorrow for work - can anyone tell me is it the wet or dry season up there? I always get confused - I know it will be low 30's but what degree of humidity? 80% or 100%

cheers

The Darwin "wet season" normally starts at the end of october and runs till about March from memory, but with the weather nowadays its pretty hard to predict.

The difference between 80 and 100% humidity is zilch when you come from Adelaide, its all bloody hot and uncomfortable really

MAte build up time build up to the wet season, troppo season right now.

The dry has just finished and now is the worst time of teh year becasue there is no relief from the humidty due to little to no chance of rain but it feels like it is going to. Plus the Sun is out and the radient heat load is high!!!!!

My anecdotal reports from mates up there is that it is a bad build up, just like it is hotter than normal down here so too it will be hotter than normal this time.

In short: pack shorts t shirt and thongs.

Typical forcast will be darwin hot, humid, mainly fine chance of an afternoon shower 34.

As someone who lived in the tropics for 12 years this is the worst time of year, I used to hate it the most. Sorry to scare you but that is teh reality. hopefully you will be in air-conditioning most of the time.

Dutchy nothing syurer than take a few extra pineapples with you amte as you will be buying a few beers......

PS do yourself a favour do to the wharf precinct for a feed, $11 barra, prawns, chips and salad. Unlike Feb this year when i gave the north boys a bum steer it should be re-opened know given that teh tourist season is winding down. Thursday night market is a good too for an Uncle Merv, plenty of hoo haa in cool short dresses.

the heat does have its advantages.......

Is the BEACHCOMBER night club still going ?, it used to
be wet season all year round for the feMALes I met

Darwin without doubt is the best town in Australia to sneak into.
A great party town, Ive been there 3 times albiet the last time
in the early 80's.
My grandpa and uncle were in the buiding trade there, so I nearly
became a permenant resident there.
Dutchy they were the only ones with betting shops backin the 80's.
I used to gamble all day, booze in the evening and try and play
cricket up there.
When you get used to the wet tropics its not that bad.

We were there for 4 days in the wet season in early Feb this year, didn't even look like raining!
We were actually wanting a storm.
Ironically the only rain I saw on the trip was a bit of a trickle when my return flight hit Alice Springs where it was 40 degrees!

It had rained (poured) every day for weeks before we got there, and rained the later in the evening the same day we left, unbelievable to get 4 dry days in the wet season.

I think we drank enough fluid in 4 days to more than make up for the whole season!

My first trip up there was in 86 when I was apart of the school band and got off the plane wearing long pants, shoes, shirt, tie and a blazer.
Christ, I almost fell over backwards when they opened up the plane door.
Luckily we were allowed to take off our blazers for the concerts, still nasty in pants, shirt and tie especially when we headed out to Jabiru which seemed 10 degrees hotter than Darwin!
