Grabbed some DVD's from the local store, & coz you get 3x 3 dayers for $6, I grabbed "McLibel"- the story about 2 London Greenpeace Activists who took on McDonalds & (morally) won.
I would be intersted in anyone's thoughts who has seen the documentary, or has an opinion on it (even a polar opposite).
I don't agree with everything their site says (ie pushing a vegetarian/vegan line), but I'm open-minded enough to read what they have to say, & do agree with some points they make- mainly that McDonalds has no nutritional value in their products (Wedgie, prepare yourself for a big court case for that comment!).

Back in '88 that article (or an abridged version of it) appeared in the Flinders Uni student rag. I cut it out and pinned it up on the staff notice board in my then workplace: Hungry Jacks on Hindley St

The truth or falsity of the claims therein are largely irrelevant to me. I don't avoid the place because of any personal social conscience. I avoid the place because the food is sh!t and tastes like plastic.

I have looked at Mclibel with interest PUNK.

Today at my kids soccer presentations there was a yellow
Mcdonalds barrell at the primary school supplying a drink of some sort.

Also the Ronald Mcdonald foundation is great but a direct contradiction,
after all isint the food they sell 'alledgedly' suspect and contributing to
the actual problem, thats being hippercritical in my eyes.

My kid when was 3-6 years old loved going regularly to maccas because the child
was given a toy with a meal deal.
She is now nearly 9 and our visits are spasmodic these days.

Also the buns[bread rolls] for the Big Macs have been tested.
It has been reported and 'alledged ' that the buns have been placed
away for up to a year and have not gone mouldy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No sign of fungal growth, just goes as hard as a rock, and we eat it !

Mcdonalds also recieved bad publicity for employing a 14 year old to
work the midnight to dawn shift[i think it was that shift] and the kids
parent/parents complained about it.

PUNK have you seen the movie SUPER SIZED ME without doubt one
of the best documentaries i have ever seen.

There is a genuine Mcpanic in my eyes , the firm has in recent times
introduced a healthier menu with salads etc.

My advice to people is to read the ingredients in thier menued foods
and then make the same judements and decisions I have made.

Yes- I've also seen Supersize Me (Morgan Spurlock).
I use these documentaries as a means to help beat the addiction to their crap food.

A challenge- I will not eat McDonalds, Hungry Jacks, KFC, Pizza Hut for 1 month (starting tomorrow) 16th of October - 16th of November.
If I fail, I will donate $10 to charity (of my choice- it will be legit) for each breach (ie each time I purchase a meal).
I invite everone to join in. with this being a multi-faceted task- one of improving the quality of our own meals, denying our bodies of the poison these meals contain & denying our hard earned $'s to these companies for 1 month.
It might just be enough us to help break the habit of a life-time., & hopefully go beyond a month.
Alternately, people could "sponsor" me for an amount each day, with the money (you pay it directly, not to me) going to the charity of their choice (keep the recieipt for tax time!)

100 % Aussie beef patties

Heres something I found on the Mcdoanlds nutrition Information.

PURE BEEF 100%
--------------------

Mcdonalds meat patties are 100% pure beef, with no additives whatsoever.
All the meat, wich is EC produced, is prepared + packaged at our own meat plants.
In addition to inspections carried out before the beef arrives at the plant, Mcdonalds
undertakes 36 seperate quality control checks on every batch.

CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP to Mcdonalds for this selective information

In a BIG MAC ingredients list :
------------------------------------

TWO 100% pure beef patties. No additives, fillers, preservatives or flavour enhancers.
Just pure beef.

CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP once again
So we have now assertained that the patties are free of insidious ingredients

Now MAL will expose the hippercrits in thier own ingredients for the rest of the BIG MAC

BUN:

Unbleached wheat flour
water
sugar
sesame seeds
yeast
vegetable oil
salt
soya flour
emulsifiers[soduim stearoyl-2-lactylate
mono-and di-acetyltartaric acid esters of mono-and di-glycerides of fatty acids
mono-and di-glycerides of fattyacids]
preservative[calcuim propionate]
flour improver[ascorbic acid]

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO look at all the additives[and its suppose to be bread]

and I know you want more
this time the Big MAC sauce

cheddar cheese
water
milk protien
emulsifying salts[soduim citrate, trisoduim orthophosphate E, phosphate salts]
lactose
salt
preservative[sorbic acid]
colouring[carotenoid derivatives]

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO more additives

and i know you want more

DILL PICKLE SLICERS

gherkins
vinegar
salt
preservatives[benzoic acid and/or sorbic acid, calcuim lactate or calcuim chloride]
spices
natural flavourings

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO more additives

Also have lettuce and dehydrated onions on the BIG MAC

SUMMARY
-----------

They are proud to brag about the 100% pure beef patties, but they conviently
will not advertise the bun, cheese and dills !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

calcuim propionate is listed in the Chemical Maze booklet as a bad preservative
with an abundance of potential effects to us.

The above information is produced by the Mcdonalds company themselves.
The company is now 51 years old, but thanks to labelling and ingredient laws
at least we know what we are eating.

FROM
Believed to start in the Baltic area as a beef cake and adopted by the sailors
of Hamburg who took it to America becoming a Hamburg steak then to a Hamburger.
OR
The first burger in US history was served Conneticut in 1895.
Loius Lassen ran a small lunch wagon selling steak sangas to factory workers.
Because he didnt like the taste the excess beef from his daily lunch rush, he ground up, grilled it, and served it between 2 slices of bread and Americas first hamburger was created.

McDonalds "bread rolls/buns" are considered as "confectionary" under the GST because of the sugar content in them.

Not sure if this is true or not, but I also heard the reason they put pickles on them is the burger would also be classed as confectionary without them. Vile crud.

well, 2 weeks in to my challenge, & no junk food eaten at multi-national takeaways!
Fridays have become my favourite days- a dozen oysters (4 natural, 8 kilpatrick) & 250 grams of prawns for lunch/dinner fridays.
Most meals have been cooked under the griller, & include fish, beef & seafood.
Tonight was quite a delicious meal, out of a low carb chinese cookbook (& very filling I might add)- garlic prawns/scallops for entre, & beef & broccili for mains.
