What is our game called?

Man it's a pet hate of mine these days.
When referring to the "Codes" of "football" in our country, it's Union, League, AFL and soccer (or football now).
I'm afraid of our game (Australian Rules Football) being labelled as AFL.

DISS here in the eastern states they all call our game AFL.
going to the footy here means going to league or union.
going to our code (footy)hear means going to the AFL

Unfortunately all of the news websites have taken it upon themselves to change it, they link to AFL, LEAGUE, UNION, FOOTBALL.
Gives me the tom tits as well.

When we came over from the Shaky Isles, it was Aussie Rules Football.

Its not afl, thats a league within the sport, sport is Aussie Rules, or Footy, ''soccer'' is Football. IMO

Football, just have a look at the sport that has been on the official clubs names/monickers for over 100 years.
There's no complexity about it.
There's football (AFL, SANFL, etc)
Rugby League (or League)
Rugby Union (or Rugby)
Soccer
Simple, always has been that way and always will be.

Its called 'American football'.
Its an oxymoron I know, but we shouldn't criticise people getting our game wrong
if we can't get others correct.

It sill is, AFL is a league, just like the WAFL, SANFL SAAFL, RMFL etc. etc., the way they (and the media) have tried to rename the whole game is a disgrace

I have always gone to watch the footy or gone to footy training at the footy club !!!
So it is Footy for me !!!
