New Farmers Union Iced Coffee "Light"

Postby Wedgie » Thu Oct 26, 2006 8:51 am

Thought I'd give this a go this morning and must admit its not bad.
It can't be compared to the normal tasting Farmers Union Iced Coffee because you can never improveo n perfection but its got a unique taste, similar to Iced Coffees of the late 70s/early 80s.
Don't mind it, I just need to find an Iced Coffee minuse the caffeine so I can stop getting bloody migraines now!

Is it "light" as in low-fat or is it "light" as in a weaker (caffiene free) taste??

I see that they have bought out an Iced Coffee Strong as well.

Its "Light" in that it has no sugar, it has more of a traditional iced coffee taste about it but still has a tad of sweetness about it and unlike soft drinks you can't taste that the swteeness is artificial.

I was a Farmers Union Iced Coffee "addict" up until about a year ago, when i realised that having one a day (i had one with my lunch for about 10 years) was just no good for my diet!! These days i have one an average about once a fortnight. I found out a couple of years ago, that the FU Iced Coffees actually have different "strengths", as signified by a number (either 1, 2, 3, or 4) up the top of the carton. Its actually quite easy to tell the different "tastes", the lower strength the better as far as i'm concerned

On the topic of the new "light" Iced Coffee, i've kept a look out in the shop for this, but so far haven't noticed it.

I am under the impression that this is an urban legend, and they are really all the same. Does anyone know for sure?

I've heard that crap before too...apparently "2" is the best batch.

I had a strong the other day, it tastes like a cafe iced coffee. I prefer the original.

Have tried the strong and the light and to me the strong tastes like what a normal iced coffee would taste like but say with a half a teaspoon of Gold Blend tossed in for good measure.
Think the light tastes good but I don't like that they all resort to using 951 in all these drinks.
Some of you may have also noticed that the Paris Creek company have just brought out a range of flavoured milks (particularly in Foodland) and they have a bit less sugar than normal and the chocalote one tastes quite good.

Boo to messing with perfection. I'm pretty sure they've changed the label fonts too. I must admit to trying the light version and it tastes watery compared to the classic.

Next thing you know they'll be putting meat in Balfours pies. Boo!

Thats what I noticed when I had one the other day too. The light pretty much tastes the same, but is a bit more watery (ie low fat). By the end of the carton I didn't really notice the difference.

I had been trying to work out if the fonts were different too, cant come to a conclusion.

Went looking for a light Iced Coffee in the DSTO cafe but they only had the strong one. So I gave it a go. Tasted much like I remember the "strong percolated iced coffee" you can buy in Perth, only sweeter. Not bad at all. Looking forward to trying the light one though.

Ive been told by a person who said he rang up FU and asked them. FU said it was a myth. I still check my carton each time though.
