For those anaware next Thursday (30/11/06) is going to be a massive rally at Elder's Pk at 8am with a live hookup to the MCG for the reasons of protesting Little Johnny Puppets "no choices" Industrial Relations dictatorship rules. I cannot stress the importance out enough to all workers and children (it will effect them more= first generation of people to get less pay and conditions than parents) to attend this. His dictatorship can not keep going, manufactering in Australia is dying!!!
Australian Workplace Agreements state the terms and conditions of your employment and allows employers to strip away your award entitlements and conditions that were previously protected. You can stand to lose / have modified:

the days you work
overtime rates
shift loading
4 weeks annual leave
meal breaks
casual loading
and allowances and other penalty rates.

The liberal government wants "workplace flexibility" , we the workers already offer bosses flexibility by working overtime,shifts,weekends, public holidays, etc by giving up our time with family and friends. Don't be fooled into thinking your boss won't shaft you because regardless if on a contract or EBA now, once over he will. Your boss is probally already testing the waters with their business groups and if the Liberals get back in power next year their will be even more changes to the Australian way of life which our forefathers fought so hard to achieve.

So people in solidarity and comradeship together we can try and make a difference. Seeya all there!!!

Even though I am now on the other side of the fence, this is still a concern for mine.
Along with some of the things you say Troy, there needs to be tariffs put back on cheap overseas imports so that local products can compete. I'm not staunch any political party but some of the things done under the Hawke/Keating regime started killing off workers rights even though the Labor party is meant to be all for the worker. In the same regard, I don't agree with what the Liberal Party is doing now.

I admire your passion Troy and Im part of a union but this doesnt directly effect me as my employer and Union have our own agreement agreed this year...good luck with it, although cant see any change occuring

I am also on a EBA but when that runs out the employer can / will change to a unfair AWA, which will remove my shift rates, leave loading and other rights I currently have and take for my advantage.

Search around for an employer who shares your values. Current unemployment rates mean that good people are looking to employ good people. I have done this and have absoultely no requirement for a union and therefore no interest in the IR law changes.

Someone who really feels passionate about their rights would do something to secure them - this is a sure-fire method.

I worked for a company and in August of 2005 a story came out about a girl who worked at Bakers Delight who was getting screwed because she had signed an AWA. Apparently the company didnt register the AWA and had to backpay her.

well when i heard that I also did the same thing and checked to see if i had an AWA registered and of course it wasnt, they also found a few other people who didnt have them. So the bosses came in heavy handed forcing people to sign up. I didnt and knew I didnt have too and at that time i signed up with the Union just for added support.

Towards the end there was 2 of us without an AWA, i told the bosses i wasnt signing and that I didnt have too, but they forced the other person to sign by saying they would place that person in another work-site which was less hours.

Im in my second stint with the company now and during my whole period ive never had an AWA, because management **** up. I was also getting paid less then what i was entitled too, because as part of the award there were 2 different sections. I then put in for backpay, which i got after 2 months!!!!!!!!!!!! would have been 2 weeks if i went through the union or workplace services.

the company has been taken over, the new company that is in charge still has the stupid fargen idiots in the office working for them, when clearly they are imcompetent and should have gone, but nevertheless the new company says that they dont agree with AWA's. they have been in charge since july and havent done anything to get rid of them. Apparently they say they are working in an EBA. this doesnt affect me as such because i dont have an AWA but it affects the 20 other people i work with and they wonder why MORALE is at an all time low

if the company was so against AWA's etc, you would think as soon as they took over they would have scrapped them all and put everyone onto the award, but they havent, so all workers should just bend over and get rammed up the a..e

I whole-heartedly agree with your sentiments, but in the current economic situation it is likely that most employers will be trying to save a $$$$$ anyway they can.

I THINK THAT the community uproar on a whole is affecting UNCLE JOHNY with his IR BABY because he has made some changes already to them, so if people keep the pressure on maybe he will back down from the whole idea, or lose the election

Good political theorisation, but the reality is that JH has a mandate which he is using to shape the country according to his vision.

As long as Labor leave bomber in charge, things are unlikely to change so a different plan of action is needed. Good luck mate.

No idea mate!! Prehaps to cause the most amount of trouble with factory workers willing to give up pay to attend and because it is earlier the Union is hoping that 9-5 white collar workers can make it this time. Saturday morning would be great for me too but regardless Locobar at Casino open 24hrs a day, 7 days a week so a few beverages before / after rally will be a enjoyable start to my day!!!

Just a quick note this is not a march as per previous ones but a rally with live hookups from different locations around the country with the MCG being the main one- Jimmy Barnes will be singing "Working class man".

Workplace minister Kevin Andrews said (in response to this) that he could fill the MCG three times with people that have found jobs under the new WorkChoices.
I suppose the only trouble there would be organising all those airline flights from India to get them here.

Just on Leave-Loading, I've never understood the principle behind this ... An employer has to pay a worker extra to not be there???

I am now in a position where I employ people, but for the majority of my working life have had an employer to answer to and I still didn't think it was reasonable to expect it.

I heard that one of the reasons was that it was to compensate for that fact that someone on holidays couldn't do overtime, and therefore pick up extra money through this means.
