I worked for a company and in August of 2005 a story came out about a girl who worked at Bakers Delight who was getting screwed because she had signed an AWA. Apparently the company didnt register the AWA and had to backpay her.
well when i heard that I also did the same thing and checked to see if i had an AWA registered and of course it wasnt, they also found a few other people who didnt have them. So the bosses came in heavy handed forcing people to sign up. I didnt and knew I didnt have too and at that time i signed up with the Union just for added support.
Towards the end there was 2 of us without an AWA, i told the bosses i wasnt signing and that I didnt have too, but they forced the other person to sign by saying they would place that person in another work-site which was less hours.
Im in my second stint with the company now and during my whole period ive never had an AWA, because management **** up. I was also getting paid less then what i was entitled too, because as part of the award there were 2 different sections. I then put in for backpay, which i got after 2 months!!!!!!!!!!!! would have been 2 weeks if i went through the union or workplace services.
the company has been taken over, the new company that is in charge still has the stupid fargen idiots in the office working for them, when clearly they are imcompetent and should have gone, but nevertheless the new company says that they dont agree with AWA's. they have been in charge since july and havent done anything to get rid of them. Apparently they say they are working in an EBA. this doesnt affect me as such because i dont have an AWA but it affects the 20 other people i work with and they wonder why MORALE is at an all time low
if the company was so against AWA's etc, you would think as soon as they took over they would have scrapped them all and put everyone onto the award, but they havent, so all workers should just bend over and get rammed up the a..e

I whole-heartedly agree with your sentiments, but in the current economic situation it is likely that most employers will be trying to save a $$$$$ anyway they can.
I THINK THAT the community uproar on a whole is affecting UNCLE JOHNY with his IR BABY because he has made some changes already to them, so if people keep the pressure on maybe he will back down from the whole idea, or lose the election
