was wondering if anyone can offer me any advice on how to keep our three and a half year old staffy of our new loungue (hmm yes we bought a suede look one - silly I know but good price at 1300 for the two)..... she gets on it and rakes it with her claws (again I think this is just something terriers do, they like to burrow) well of course because of the suede look the raking leaves marks... me and my dh are pooing our daks at the moment that she is going to wreck it within a week... we are doing our best at berating her whenever she goes to jump on the couch so hopefully she eventually knows not to go on it at all.... and before any smart bum suggests it, giving away our ebbie-dog is not an option (yes, we have been tempted many times over the last few years) the thing is her behaviour is quite good now, this seems to be our only issue with her. Has anyone gone through this that can offer me advice or know of any product etc that we can spray onto the fabric that will deter her..... I am thankful for any helpful hints.. thanks lunchey

LH we used to breed and show old english sheepdogs. had about 5 australian champions. of these 2 were treated as part of the family and lived inside all the time, the rest were up in the kennels outside. these 2 who lived inside would leave malting hair all over the lounge as well. dad took them to obedience school and the addition of the good old rolled up NEWSpaper (still around in our day) occassionly across the nose did the trick. they learn pretty quickly not to get on the couch. if your dog has one of those doggy bed (lounge) put that next to your couch to show where your dog has to sit. old methods from obedience school taught back in the 80's though

Keep the dog outside where it belongs.

We've had a Staffy for 12 years, and the first 9 she didn't go near the lounge (tried early on but was told off and didn't go back), then one day my sister inlaw invited her, then about a week later so did the missus, now she thinks it's her right, doesn't matter what we do or say, she's back on it as soon as I turn around.

The only down fall having the sookiest most people loving dog I've ever come across, they want to be everywhere people are.

I don't believe dogs should be in houses (if only for the smell)
