My morning commute was ruined

Yesterday some selfish so-and-so got himself killed at Oaklands train station, thereby putting the trains off and ruining the townwards journey for hundreds of commuters.

I was forced to drive so I turned on the radio for news. All I heard was basically the above: Trains off due to accident, shuttle bus operating between Brighton and Woodlands Park.

There appears to be no mention of it in this morning's 'tiser. No doubt they were too busy reporting on more important news like the colour of Mark Riccutio's bootlaces.

Does anyone know what happened?

The selfish so and so knows what happened.
And so does the Train driver.

Apparently they don't report these things because if it is a suicide, they don't want copycats. The multi-story carpark near where I work has had two people jump from the roof in the last 6 weeks (there is now a permanent security guard on the roof) but absolutely nothing was reported in the press or elsewhere.

Similar to the Myer Centre. Was at the top level with the kids gazing out below, when a 16 yo jumped. Rang 5aa couple of days later to see why it was not news. Got told is was a regular occurance and auithorities asked not to be publicised

One they had to report, many many years ago, was a jumper off the Rundle Mall carpark. Landed right on top of someone and killed that person instantly and survived. Should've been charged with murder I reckon, still makes my blood boil. I realise people have issues, I know some. Taking out an innocent pedestrian in an effort to solve them is just not on.

Interesting comments re hushing up potential suicide cases. I'm vaguely surprised that the media would respect such requests.

Speaking to a person tonight who is a regular commuter from Oaklands, he claimed that the accident appeared to be not at Oaklands itself but in the Marion direction, about where the Sturt creek is. He said he could see a stopped train in the distance with lots of people milling around it.

Another person claimed that he heard the deceased was female, but could not qualify that claim.

I guess I could trawl through the death notices in search of evidence, but that's a little too macabre even for me.

At least you didn't need the Tiser for that info....
