Hi all,

Server issues, host issues and site issues have prompted us to upgrade the PHPBB system we use from version 2 to version 3. Version 3 has just come out after being in beta for a while (and is in release candidate now, good enough) and seems to be great.

What does this mean? Well, in order to upgrade, we need to perform a fresh install of PHPBB3 parallel to the current forum, and then run a script which copies all the data (users/posts/forums/pms etc etc) to the new software. For this to happen, the current site needs to be locked so that no new data can be added and the data on the new site is identicle to the old one.

Will you notice changes? Yes, certainly. One issue is that the theme/skin we use for the current forum (called CA_Aphrodite) has NOT been ported over to the new software and probably won't. Because of this, we need to find an alternative which looks similar. So in essence, the look of the new forum will be slightly different.

There are also new features which will become evident as well. Some things like posting images might not be available right off the bat but we'll see how we go.

But all in all, the main reason for the changes are behind the scenes. The issues we've had recently with server load should be fixed, and most database functions are very much streamlined in the new version.

I ask you all to be patient

If there are issues, we will get on to them ASAP and make sure everything runs smoothly after the change over. If you have any comments, questions, gripes, praise (?) then please shoot us an email/pm and we will endeavour to reply.

So - when? In the next 36 hours...... If the stie is down at any time, this is the reason. The change should take around an hour or two so be warned that you won't be able to receive your fix right away.

The conversion is done. The old forum is no longer current and all links SHOULD point to this forum. Apologies if it's confusing, or something doesn't work but I've done my best to get things going again.

If you have any issues, please contact me through here via a PM or email.

Conversion looks good.

Just letting you know though that phpbb 3.0 is still an unstable release and may have some minor bugs you might have to sort out with patches down the track. I know, as I've used this code a fair bit.

But all looks good so far

As yet there's no plugin for PostImage.org as there was before.
But, you can add an attachment like this :

Yup, well aware of that.
But, the fact the code is far more streamlined and database routies done a lot better, we're hoping it fixes a lot of issues with the host as far as server load goes.

Happy to update it with patches if/when that happens!!

Just wondering if there will still be a link made available in the (new) main menu to all the club forums?

I didn't read the sticky before hand, and logged in during an ad on TV, and the old format was still in use. Then logged in just now as my movie and my beers have ended and discovered this.

I better point out that although Im now helping with the tinkering now it was all of Diss's work to transfer the old software to the new software, thanks heaps Diss, I don't know what I or the entire site would do without you!
