Car Dealership's Spare Parts

As I have reported in what gives you the sh1ts thread my car has survived a break in attempt. The passenger side lock is totally buggered and must be replaced but what confuses me is the price difference of around $300 for the replacement lock.

Went to the Ford spare parts distributors in Regency Park and my local Super cheap auto centre for the cheaper price under $50. Are we comparing apples and apples or not?

Dealerships are shockers for over-charging on 'genuine' spare parts. I have had to replace my petrol cap twice (my fault) and get a new car badge once (not my fault) and paid through the nose each time.

Yes but the tolerance on the medicines is +/- 20% of original. Car parts have to fit better than that!

Did it work like a wick on a fire cracker? Places like AutoPro often have suitable alternatives for the very expensive originals.

Supercheap are normally after market Asian parts from what I've seen. If you want your car to be seen to be standard, I'd go with Ford parts.

Don't say that too loud on here otherwise the resident pyro might hear!!

On subject:the reason for over price is that dealership parts have a longer warranty. From memory Mitsi had a 10 year warranty on spare parts.

Should fit better, aftermarket parts often don't, and are often not made to the same quality, you get what you pay for.

someone should have lit the wick you provided them, that's not just dumb, but bloody dangerous as well.

Yeah all that would have went up was an old shite box Sigma. Man this thing smoked worse then a chain smoker and i got one litre of oil to every 1000km's. I should it with a new petrol cap for $300 i made double my money.

Maybe just call into the Ford wreckers, that way you get a genuine part for much less cost.
