On a Virgin for 7 hours.

The boss has just had a very good year, and as reward to us all (9 of us),he took us to Melbourne last weekend.

We went to the Collingwood V Essendon game, out for dinner atthe Crown, brekky near the market and flew home Sunday. But the story begins here:

We got the 7:00am red eye on Saturday morning,up at 4:45,pick up a couple of workmates, get to airport 6:00,on the plane 6:40,take off 7:00.All good.Then,5 minutes after take off.

"Good morning ladies and gentle men, this is your captain speaking. In Melbourne there is currently heavy fog,we expect some delays and will be placed in a holding pattern over Bendigo until further notice."

This is about 7:20 am.At about 10:15,YES,3 HOURS LATER he comes back:

" blah blah blah,it appears as though the fog ahs not lifted,we may be diverted back to Adelaide". WTF? Why take off then? Surely they knew in Melbourne it was foggy, just make us wait in Adelaide.

Then at 11:00 we get "blah blah blah we are being diverted to Canberra to re fuel and when given clearance we will return to Melbourne" WTF?

So after 40 minutes sitting on the plane in Canberra, the pilot basically starts backing the plane back, people scramble for seats and we finally arrive in Melbounre at 1:30 local time.

The taxi ride to the MCG is another story, but we left Adelaide at 7:00 am,and get off in Melbourne 6 hours later.Did they offer us a drink? Water? Nope.Updated information? Nope. Very unprofessional indeed.

Tough break Booney. Hope the hostesses were hot!

Gotta agree with Sam though...Jet Star are absolute trousers. I've flown them twice (gave them the benefit of the doubt), and would feel safer in a 60's Russian jet, piloted by a graduate Indian Airlines pilot.

I fully sympathise. I had a similar situation flying home from my honeymoon in Perth.

Except we sat on the plane for three hours before they decided we couldn't fly out. Then spent two hours lining up to get our luggage back and to confirm details of our flight the next morning. A further hour and a half spent waiting for a bus to take us to our hotel.

We got to our hotel at 10pm. Had a 4am wake up, so we could get a 7am flight out.

Horrible, horrible.

I am one of those lucky flyers - never once have I been delayed from take off, never once have I landed more than 10 minutes after scheduled landing time.

Even managed to pick up a hosty many moons ago.

Train travel is another matter - Eastern Europe trains gave me nightmares. Took me 4 days to complete a 2 day trip, along with many other delays and even a slow-speed derailment. Really handy when the announcements sound like someone trying to hock a loogy and everyone starts running for exits!

I knew that was coming after I hit submit... Almost edited to be specific about the hosty being female!

smac i consider anyone who gets out alive a lucky flyer. I am absolutely terrified of air travel. Going overseas on Saturday and i'm sh*tting myself. quite happy for the delays in fact i hope they cancel all air travel forever :( I know it's really stupid and all the facts that it's safer that driving etc. but f*ck that when i'm driving i'm not that far up in the air.

Not stupid at all...you're far from being the only one and at least you have the guts to admit it. For me it's sailing...can cope with a river cruise cos I can see land within reach but I could NEVER take an ocean cruise. I know saying you'll be fine makes no difference even though I'm sure you will be :goodman:

JAS

Fair point mate, I understand completely - before a job I had in the mid 90's saw me flying every couple of weeks I was the same. Must taken off and landed 200 times in the past 12 years.

One of the great moments of my life was doing a loop in a glider. Nose down at 45 degrees, wait till you hit 90 knots then pull the stick all the way back - 3.75Gs!

My wife and I went to Vanuatu for our honeymoon. Stopped off at Sydney and they said there would be an hour delay. From memory, scheduled departure time was 8pm. Dont think we ended up leaving until 11ish. Didnt reach the hotel until 3:50am the following morning. Craziness!
