Royal adelaide today.

Course is in great condition, albeit a little dry.
Greens didn't break nearly as much as I expected and were a little slower than the practice greens and I failed to adapt.
Driver was solid.
Only found a couple bunkers and got out easily enough.

Bloody long course. Played off the Black tees.

Beer after 9 the highlight.

Didn’t have a 3 putt all day.

 matchplay
My opponent had his partner caddy for him. On first green I hit a putt and she chimes in that I played out of turn and a penalty applied. Happy to concede I may have played out of turn (was 50-50) but there's no penalty as she tried to say. So I picked up and conceded.
On the 2nd tee he told me she was a rules nazi
I told him it's all good, it will be over after 10 holes.

The only penalty in matchplay for playing out of turn is you have to replay the shot in turn. Very rarely see that imposed for a 1st offence though

Yep. But she didn't want to hear about it.
Then on the 6th we were opposite sides of fairway and she's yelling out yardages.
She signals for me to have a shot and half way through backswing starts yelling out to stop....
To me it's just golf. Yes Matchplay is slightly different but now I also know why that group gets complained about for slow play.
It wasn't club champs, not penants or anything of note. Just a side comp of which not many people entered.
Mind you she said at the start women weren't allowed to enter, so perhaps she was pissed

Well let’s just say I spent a day and a half in bed after it! #-O

They ran the day so well, one of the best ran days I’ve been involved in, plenty of food and more importantly plenty of pi55 delivered on course all day, like I said really well ran. Nick Chigwidden even delivery the food!

Great format, although something I’ve never seen before 3 person Ambrose, 2 groups per hole score each others card to stop the burglars. Brilliant idea.

More importantly we won the day! Team handicap of 6.3 which I was very happy with. Unknown what the prize is as yet, as presentation was back at the club that I didn’t attend.

My highlights were out driving the pro on the par 5, 2x Birdies back to back on my own (1st and 2nd whole), but my biggest was on the 14th we’d used all my drives and the 24 handicapper in my group put one up the middle (albeit not very far) so I wasn’t going to bother hitting but a member of the other group drives straight over the bunker and says ‘No one will beat that’ I pull out driver and drive it to 6ft from the pin. We missed the eagle but I still loved it.

Great day, even better result.

Saturday 95 off stick. Putting diabolical.
When the round was over after about my 6th hole I just swung driver like the world long drive guys.... big wide stance etc and creamed them.

Today stableford. 30pts
Putting was worse.
10th had a birdie putt and bogey. 10th green much quicker than 9th ffs
On 14th hit a great putt but what was an easy tap in for a 4 and 2pts turned I into a wipe
Tried same driver action as yesterday but not as good. Even topped one

Today
Started on 10th.
15pts after 9.
Wiped the par 3 13th. Hit a club to much and put me in all sorts.
Putting was solid. Butchered 1 hole but sunk a decent birdie and par putts.
Came home in 21pts for 36.

Golf: I had free lessons at Kooyonga at age 13 in 1956 because the then pro (Jim MIlls) thought I was a promising youngster, but I was impatient and never really took to it. I have a set of clubs in the garage that I haven't used since 1978.

I also dabbled with Archery, roller skating, and Judo as a younger child, then Hockey, Soccer, Tennis, Baseball, and Wrestling at High School. Later I took up Fencing and dabbled briefly with Ice Skating while at University for a while. After finishing University I moved on to flying a Piper Cherokee with a friend who was a flying club member, and in the later 1980s took up Equestran activities for a while.

I guess I've never stuck with any sport for long. Mind you I was a bit like that with girlfriends in my early days... ;)

Twilight

Auspicious start. Driver clipped tree dropped down... but we hacked our way army style to just on edge of bunker. Chipped over and a putt for bogey.
Par 2nd
Wiped 3rd, 3 in the bunker
4th another driver that clipped trees and dropped straight down. But we made par, narrowly missed birdie.
5th low fade driver into position A. 2 putt par, again just missed birdie.
6th beautiful straight drive. Just off back of green in 2. 9i chip and run and left it 2inches from hole
7th... ffs. Took a nice 7w and into Swale. That's fine. Hit a pw out to get it running and it ran off front of green. 5 ffs narrowly missed bogey.
8th nice drive and then shank 2nd. But superb recovery through a tiny gap put me just on the high side of path. Chipped on with some sizzle. 2 putt bogey, par putt just short.
9th made a mess here. Just off back of green with tee shot in an awkward lie. Putter to get it rolling... and yep off the front.. wipe

16pts.

Ambrose Saturday and barossa sunday

Barossa

What a silly game this is.

Off the first and hit a solid driver
7 wood front of green
9i chip n run
1 putt par

From there the driver decided to have a apricot ******* slice.
Then when I adapted for it, I pummelled it straight

38 points
Wiped 2 par 3s. The 15th was a little unlucky, 7 wood just flew a fraction too far and bounced into the rubbish

Putting was solid today, still missed a few stupid short putts.
Greens were patchy and were well worn around the holes causing them to be like pin ball.

Playing Tanunda Sunday so will be able to compare better than my ageing memory

Last year I would have said Barossa was better.
Barossa was nice and green, tee boxes, landing areas on fairways and the greens. Under trees fairly clear and easy to find balls
Tanunda was a little dusty from memory.

This year, greens were a little patchy at Barossa.
