My local course.
Been a lot of work on the course in the last 2 years.

All of the Riverland courses are decent, the area should really be promoting Golf weekends up here.

they should be doing more of what wirrina does - stay and play type things, but make it include all of the courses in the area.

would love to play renmark some day, havent yet. played waikerie though, and i enjoyed it, though the fringes were cut so long that i almost lost my ball when i was 5m from the green! made it hard to chip, almost like playing out of a sand bunker, but other than that it was good.

That was my one gripe up here. Greens were too hard to throw one up and attack the pin and the fringe too lush to play it up.

Doesn't seem to be a problem any more. Course is well kept.

Superintendent is ex-Grange and has done well.

im pretty sure it has. saw a scoopon for them the other day, and it said that it is under new management and also in the process of renovating all of the rooms. if thats the case, it will be great. such a good location, just a shame that the hotel was run down, as it is a great weekend getaway, particularly combined with the great courses in the area.

cool, ill look out for some specials

yes I had a golf weekend package away that the Mrs organised for my birthday 18months ago.

a queen size bed was just two singles put together, which I felt was ordinary.

the food was quite good in the restaurant though.

I found the course to be rather easy though, so id happily go back for another hit!!! lol

ive played penfield, regency, north haven, north lakes, kapunda, (i think they are all of the 9 hole courses north of adelaide) and in order i would rate them

Kapunda - bit out of the way if you are from the city but the best. greens are very soft which detracts a little but but the course is in great nick.

Penfield - virtually empty almost all of the time. quite a short and tight course (except for the two long par 5s) but the greens are nice. areas off the fairway are a bit average and are just about all clay.

North Haven - another really nice 9 hole course and not very busy.

Regency - done up a few years ago, and nice course, though very busy and lots of hacks around.

North Lakes - rubbish course, very busy a lot of the time, bunkers have no sand in them, course is very boring and there are no interesting holes, fairways are patchy. on the flip side it is a very easy course so you dont have to think too much. if you ever have a mate that has never played golf before and you want to go for a hit with him, this is the course, as they are very welcoming to everyone.

Not big noting - I played Royal Adelaide a fortnight ago, horribly overrated (although I did have 40 pts ;) ).
Kooyonga , Glenelg, Grange & Blackwood leave it for dead.
Mt.Lofty, Victor, South Lakes, Wirrina, McCracken, Willunga are all good public courses with some great holes both challenging and picturesque.
Never been a fan of Flaggy, was a member of the Vines years ago - overrated also.
Murray Bridge is a nice public course if you don't mind the drive.
Kingston SE is in good nick too.

Over the border, Warnambool is nice, Pt. Fairy is awesome.

Ok, have been playing on average once a fortnight since christmas.. sometimes weekly.... here is my view of the courses we have played, from the view of a greenkeeper and a mid 20's handicapper.

Regency Park played... all the time. Score 44-52
Great 9 hole course that, depending on pin placements, can cause a few headaches on the greens while being very forgiving to wayward tee shots. Greens are nice and big. Currently slightly let down with 5 temporary greens in play due to a severe disease outbreak. All greens should be open again in about a month.

Belair played 24/2. score 111
With all the bad reports heard about this course, I was pleasantly surprised with the condition of the tees, fairways and greens. This may be due to the fact i played here about a month or so after the record rains we had. 1 of the downsides was the size of the greens, for a full size course i thought they were too small, great putting surface and on the quicker side, just not enough area. Would recommend a cart here if not a fan of walking some hilly terrain

North Adelaide South played 2/3. score 114
Nice wide fairways and reasonably sized greens. Couldn't complain about the course or the speed of the greens, not overly fast but not terribly slow either. The blue flags were a bit hard to see in the early morning shadows. Not sure if worth the $33 though.

Tanunda Pines played 16/3. score 120
The favorite course so far this year, nice couch grass fairways. Greens on the quicker side of neutral. Very tough rough if you stray too far off the fairways make for a challenge to the average hacker. $45 a round is a tad expensive, but we had 2 for 1 vouchers which made it that much better.

The Pat played 7/4. score 109
After hearing how good this course was from the boss at work who is a member there (previous clubs he had included regency and TTG, plays of about 5) i was slightly disappointed overall. The greens were slower than expected, pitch marks werent repaired on the greens. Fairways and tees were magnificent and over all the course was in pretty good condition. I think i wouldnt have been let down if i wasnt told how good it was before hand.

Stirling (mount lofty) played 13/4. score 112
Nearly died walking up the 1st fairway! The course is the 'prettiest' that I have played on. Greens had just been cored and top dressed maybe within a week of us playing, resulting in the slowest greens the world had seen.. which for a high handicapper like myself, is good. The course was a bit too short, being only a par 67. Would seriously recommend a cart here.

Mount Osmond played 25/2. score 125
Fastest greens ive ever played. tightest fairways. best views of the city!
This course was severe and was the hardest so far due to the green speed and narrow fairways. Perfectly presented golf course. just too good for my hacking ability!

agree with all of those reviews, well done.

tanunda is a great course.

another you should check out is gawler - cheap vouchers can be found in a lot of places, and is also a nice course. not as good as tanunda but still good.

My top 5 of all courses I've played

Grange West
Tea Tree Gully
Alice Springs
The Vines
Flagstaff Hill

Honourable mention - Willunga (considering it is a council owned course is pretty nice).

SA Courses
- Kooyonga (and you know that Heater)
- Royal Adelaide (saw someone say it was over rated, disagree big time)
- Glenelg
- Grange West (haven't played new East, but only had rave reviews)
- TTG (home course naturally)
- Tanunda Pines (loved the layout and greens - sandbelt quality)
- Mt Gambier (Attamurra)
- Millicent

Won't play unless I have to
- Thaxted Park (last visit revealed a star dropper at the bottom of my divot on right hand side of the second - yes it hurt like hell)
- Highercombe (almost killed me in the Holden Scramble last year - son in law a member)

My advice to the golfers out there is take advantage of the open days at my top 4 rated courses. Someone suggested join a club and get a handicap, half price green fees, well worth the cost, consider you pay upwards of $100 a round on Gold and Sunshine Coasts and probably s..t loads more on the Melbourne sandbelt.

One of the teachers at work is going to take me out at TTG in the holidays...

Havent played there for about 20 or so years... was a member during my teens and I'm really looking forward to seeing how much the course has changed...

Used to love playing there every week...
