The Oakmont Country Club will host the 116th US Open Championship.

Jordan Spieth is the defending champion, having won the 2015 edition at Chambers Bay.

Oakmont is a tradition style course for hosting a US Open, and is the course that has hosted this championship the most times.

Last played here in 2007, Angel Cabrera was the winner. In 1994, Ernie Els came out on top. The 1983 edition was won by Larry Nelson, while in 1962 Jack Nicklaus was victorious.

The US open gets under way on Thursday June 16, 2016.

Early Betting:

Day 7.00
McIlroy 7.50
Spieth 9.00
D. Johnson, Fowler 19.00
Scott, Rose 21.00
Grace, Matsuyama, Stenson, Watson 29.00
Woods, Willett, Garcia, Mickelson 34.00
Oosthuizen, Casey, Reed Kuchar 41

I have long admired the way Paul Casey plays. Blackbooked him years ago to win a major, and not really even been close so far. Mind you I did the same with Colin Montgomerie.

Pumped!

I really enjoyed Fox's coverage last year so i'm expecting A1 coverage again this year.

A course as brutal as Oakmont tends to throw up an outside winner so i'll pick Oosthuizen

With the quality of my bunker play.. It would take me 8 hours to play a round there....

love seeing the pros struggle to get under par though. thats where the best golf is. i find most of the "normal" tournaments boring as they just hit a 3 wood off the tee then a wedge into every hole

Agree.
It was interesting to see the Champions Tour this morning when Langer was the only player under par......make the PGA tour do the same.
It is boring with the technology in clubs

Looking forward to the upcoming week of golf. By all reports Oakmont (#4 ranked course in the USA) will once again - bare it's teeth. Some interesting comments here regarding watching the worlds best struggle around a tough golf course. I kind of get that. The US open is about playing Par golf. This won't be won by someone shooting the lights out 4 days running. Reading the thoughts of one punter, he is predicting +5 could win  For me the great thing about the 4 majors is the different way they play out. Masters - rewards shot making, and despite recent efforts to toughen up the course. We still see many 5 under type rounds. US Open - Shoot Par, you damn near win. Sometimes, they do win with par. British Open - so much depends on the weather. You could win with 10 under, or 10 over! Us PGA - this can often be a score-fest, with some low shooting

The winner here will be the player who keeps it in play, gets up and down. Keeps it neat & tidy. The greens will be quick, the rough will be deep. I expect to see plenty hitting long irons off the tees. Jason Day should be there or thereabouts. Hits his 2 iron long & straight, gets it up & down. For my money (and I have had an investment) Jordan Spieth will be looking to bounce back from Augusta. Has the game, we know it, to get the job done.

Some spectacular holes at Oakmont - The 3rd hole with its signature "church pews bunkering" down the left hand side, which also come into play on the 4th hole. The par 3 6th hole - miss right here & it's bogey for sure. Another par 3 on the 8th hole, features the 100 yard long "sahara" bunker down the left. The short par 4 11th is a tight affair. Then there is the par 4 17th - some may try to drive the green, but the bunkering here is severe. Risk & Reward - who's up for it?

Going by the TV guides - it's foxtel only. And the telecast times are a bit of a nightmare. I expect the best parts of the coverage will be at 3 or 4 in the morning our time. Hmm maybe looking for replays or work out how that bloody recording thing works on my foxtel box....

The members at Oakmont offer you to beat double your handicap. No one beats it.

Members par is 71 so a 10 handicapper (reasonable amateur) won't break 90

I dare say I would be pushing 150 at a minimum...... especially if caught in the church pews bunker
