Not a bad trio right behind him when he hit it.
Grandad, Gary Player & Tom Watson. Their excitement was really genuine.

SOME bizarre scenes came out of Thursday’s Masters action.

America’s Tony Finau, the world No. 34, hit a spectacular hole-in-one at the seventh whole, and the reaction from both the crowd and golfer was as expected.

The Augusta spectators went wild, while Finau turned on the jets and sprinted toward the hole. However, in the midst of the celebration, Finau seemingly dislocated his ankle, dropping to the green in pain.

In an odd circumstance, the American popped his ankle back into place before limping toward the crowd.

Ankle clearly not bothering him. Leader by 1 4 under through 12. Club house leaders at 3 under. Marc Leishman sits at 2 under after a round of 70

IT wasn’t quite the 64 Jordan Spieth opened with on his way to his first green jacket in 2015.
But his first round 66 showed the Texan’s love affair with Augusta National is a more than a whirlwind romance.
With two runner-up finishes to go with his Masters victory Spieth, playing the tournament for just the fifth time, topped off an afternoon of sizzling scores following a morning which drowned in black numbers.

A bogey on the 18th was one of three, but Spieth’s laser-like iron play and the putting precision he’s famous for helped him find eight birdies, including five in a row on the back nine which got him to seven-under, before his last hole slip up left him with only a two-shot lead.
On a day meant to be all about Tiger Woods, who opened his first Masters in more than 1000 days with a rollercoaster round of one-over 73, it was Spieth, the new Augusta master, who put his stamp on a tournament he loves above everything else in golf.
He was whipped in to $3 favourtism with the TAB, despite there still being three rounds to go. The chasers might need every one of them to catch him.
“I think quick starts are important in any event. It’s not unique to the Masters at all; it’s any tournament. If you get off to a good start, you’re in control of your own fate, versus needing a little bit of help,” Spieth said.

“This tournament often feels like there’s six rounds with how the weekend grind is and well, really any major. I feel like I’m kind of one round down out of six, so I’m not getting ahead of myself. It’s just it was a really good start. “
Spieth finished the day three in front of Matt Kuchar and Tony Finau, who needed the advice of two doctors just to tee off after dislocating his ankle in the par three contest earlier in the week.

Finau, the world number 34, had an MRI and did everything possible to avoid missing a start in his first ever Masters.
“To be in this position I’m at now; when I woke up this morning, nothing short of a miracle if you ask me. I could barely put any pressure on it. I could barely walk,” he said.

“But obviously, after the MRI we had, you know, there was no real damage. So at that point, at about 8:00 this morning, I knew I was going to play.”
Among the other’s set to be snapping at Spieth’s heels in round two is Rory McIlroy, who opened with a three-under 69, but played with a strut that suggests his confidence around Augusta is well and truly in check.

“Jordan had a pretty strong finish there. But this is my best start in a few years,” McIlroy said.
“And, yeah, it’s such a hard golf course to play catch up on. If you start to chase it around here, that’s when you start to make mistakes. But to be right up there and have the ability to stay patient, because of the position I’m in, that’s a nice luxury I have over the next few days.”

Leader Board Round One
1 J. Spieth -6

2 M. Kuchar -4
2T. Finau -4

4 R. McIlroy -3
4 R. Cabrera Bello -3

Negligently forgot it was starting tonight, turned it on and quickly put a tenner on Kuchar at $17.
