Big Brooks gets it done......

Brooks Koepka was the wire-to-wire leader Sunday at Oak Hill, but winning the PGA Championship didn't come easily.

Koepka spent much of the back nine holding on for dear life with Viktor Hovland in pursuit before gaining separation down the stretch. Two bogeys on the front nine turned a four-stroke lead into a one-stroke edge for Koepka, and Hovland was one stroke behind on the 16th hole when disaster struck. Hovland couldn't clear the bunker, his ball wedging in between the sand in the grass.

It was the same mistake that knocked Corey Conners out of the lead on Saturday, and it ultimately resulted in a three-shot swing Sunday. Hovland made a double bogey while Koepka birdied the hole. It was all a formality from there.

The victory puts Koepka at the pinnacle of golf for the first time since 2019, when he won his fourth major in three years. It was clear when he led the Masters after 54 holes in April that he was going to be a serious contender at majors this year, and he didn't let his Sunday struggles at Augusta knock him off his game at Oak Hill.

There is no understating the significance of Koepka's win. He's now only the third player this century to earn five major championships, joining Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. Koepka is also now the sixth man to win at least three PGA Championships. He won the event in 2018 and 2019.

Koepka's win is meaningful for LIV Golf as well.

The PGA Championship has now been won by Koepka as often as it has been won by anyone not named Koepka in the last six years, and he looks like the man to beat entering the final two majors of 2023.

This is how it ended up...

1 Brooks Koepka -9 (F)
T-2 Scottie Scheffler -7 (F)
T-2 Viktor Hovland -7 (F)
T-4 Kurt Kitayama -3 (F)
T-4 Cam Davis -3 (F)
T-4 Bryson DeChambeau -3 (F)
T-7 Rory McIlroy -2 (F)
T-7 Sepp Straka -2 (F)

And even better, a $20 bonus bet in my Sportsbet account, laid a week before they tee'd it up, at $19 on B. Kopeka, has turned into a $360 payout.

Thanks Mate. I couldn't believe it when I saw a $19 quote next to his name. That was crazy odds, and I had to have a piece of that action.

Mind you, I think my overall career punting on golfing majors, I would be well down. My last collect was Corey Pavin winning the 1995 Us Open! Given I estimate I would have had a bet on at least 75% of the golf majors for nearly 30 years...... this one was well overdue.

I find punting on golf majors the hardest, you could literally have 30 bets and not get close, so many chances to win. Well done on finally getting a collect :D
